I'm old. I've seen model prices go from (US) $0.50 per kit to $30.00 per kit for moderate-quality kits. I haven't built models for a long time, but now I'm using kits as a stepping stone toward building models and dioramas from raw materials. On the side, I design and print things with my own small (8) 3D printer farm and sometimes animate them with my own homebrew electronics. TL;DR I'm fairly good with my hands and I have a sharp eye for detail.
