For more than a month I have had the kit and I could not wait to start. But on principle I only do one project at the same time. Yesterday I unpacked the kit and started planning. I heard there was a mistake in the kit: the engine housing is too long, because it belongs to a later version (SH-2G). Unfortunately, I have to say that this is true🙁 However, I do not think that it should not be too complicated to correct this. Today after only one hour I had filled the hole in the transparent roof section and completed the first round of filling with plastic and super glue the front part of the engine housing.
More tomorrow when the glue has dried... I think, the housing is 6-7 mm to long (see sketch).

I solved half of the problem in about 2 hours and it was not that hard. Thanks to the super glue and plastic there was no need of using putty🙂

EME 2014 in Heiden was a good motivation and the cockpit has grown a bit. A few days ago I found some astonishing pictures in a forum.

Thanks Murad! The fit of the windscreen on upper side is OK (8 of10). It is not clearly visible how the windscreen fits to all other sides because of lack on contrast (all parts are transparent). I think in a few days after airbrushing black and grey primer I will know more🙂

Hi mates. I suppose that most of the aircraft enthusiasts know the anti-skid areas on planes and helicopters. In most cases these are coated with special paint which contains sand. Many years ago I had an idea to create this on my TBM-3E firebomber #3 and I was surprised how realistic this looked. Today I have finished the anti-skid areas for my Seasprite and I would like to share this idea with you.
The basis were the decals from Caracal decals with the white lines around the antiskid panels. After masking all the white areas I airbrushed a thick coat (really thick) with unthinned paint (Humbrol) with very low pressure (0,7 bar). Approx. 5 min later I pressed 1500 micro mesh into the still wet paint and produced an uneven surface. This looks in my opinion very similar to the anti skid areas. See 2 last pictures.

Hi Dirk,
mit ganz wenigen Ausnahmen bin ich seit ca. 25 Jahren Humbrol treu und so habe ich auch hier die Farbe selbst gemischt. Ein Mix aus ca. 75% H125 (FS26118 ) und ca. 25% H181 (FS15042, leider seit etlichen Jahren nicht mehr im Programm ) kommt m.E. Engine Grey (FS16081) nahe und hat den richtigen Glanzgrad für eine Einsatzmaschine, die dem salzhaltigen Klima ausgesetzt wurde. An dieser Stelle noch ein Tipp: Engine Gray ist nicht ein neutrales grau (wie z.B. FS36008 ), sondern hat einen eindeutigen „Türkis-Stich". Oft wird durch Modellbauer ein neutrales grau verwendet, was den Gesamteindruck verfälscht. Siehe letztes Bild als Screenshot der Graureihe aus dem FS-Server.

Übrigens sind die Decals von Caracal Decals (gedruckt bei Cartograf) hervorragend und haben nach der Behandlung mit Mr Setter von Gunze den gleichen Glanzgrad wie die Farbe. Kurzum: ich kann mir glücklicherweise auch bei diesem Projekt den Klarlack sparen🙂

Hatte es mir fast schon gedacht. Die graue Beimischung macht es aus. Das Blau ist schön hell, nicht so Bärenar... Dunkel und Fettglänzend wie man es leider all zuoft sieht. Sehr schön getroffen.

Yesterday I had a bit of fun detailing the complicated wiring on the undercarriage. Are the sovjet helicopters constructed more simply? With all three helicopters from Mil Mi it was not half as complicated. It is probably because the Seasprite has retractable landing gear. Good thing I am an electrician by training🙂
P.S. Christian; Thx, dauert aber noch abissle, der Hauptrotor steht mir noch bevor. Kennst du nicht jemand, der einen fertig verkabelten Rotorkopf als Zubehör anbietet?

Moin Moin Christian. Ob du es glaubst oder nicht; so ein Puzzlekramm liegt mir wirklich, soweit die Augen noch wollen. Eine Scheibe ca. 0,8 mm stark vom Rundstab 1,6 mm in der Mitte. Darauf ein Stück Rundstab mit 1,2 mm Durchmesser, bei welchem eine Seite mit Skalpell abgeflacht wurde. Zum Teil offene Öse aus Draht, Enden abgeflacht und zum Schluss zwei Scheiben vom Rundstab 0,5 mm Links und rechts als Muttern. Bei beiden Rädern hat das keine 5 Minuten gedauert und war m.E. Nicht wirklich schlimm. Was ich wirklich lästig finde ist Spachteln, Schleifen und Gravieren. Übrigens greife ich die Kleinteile mit der Spitze eines Skalpells.

2001- Odyssee im Weltraum, ach nee das war ja 1969...
Jens, das finde ich bemerkenswert, dass du dich so gut erinnern kannst! Erstens finde ich deine Modelle sehr gut und sauber gebaut. So, das musste mal gesagt werden. Ich glaube, dass jeder sich selbst viel kritischer sieht als die anderen.
Lass mich kurz ins Jahr 1990 zurück blicken und dir diese Geschichte erzählen. So um 2 Jahre in Geschäft habe ich damals gerade eine 72ger Mustang von Heller mit Humbrol 56 lackliert und war sehr, sehr stolz. Kurz danach auf der Ausstellung des DPMV in Hannover begegnete ich Kay Koglin und seiner P-38 sowie der AH-64, beide in 1:48. Da stand ich mit offenem Mund und wollte gar nicht glauben, was ich da sah. 1998 in Offenbach standen wir dann beide auf der Bühne und gratulierten uns gegenseitig zum Gold und Silber. Er hatte die He-219 und ich die TBF-1c gebaut. Das war ein wirklich schönes Erlebnis.
Es hängt oft "nur" an dem "richtigen Kleber" oder der Technik, die man zufällig entdeckt und mit der man gut klar kommt. So war das bei mir z.B. mit der Mischung aus Metalizern und Mr. Color für NM-finish sowie mit dem Postshading für die Schattierung.

Köln 2002.... Viele Jahre her... Die Zeit mit dem Karton vom HP-Drucker und den Kondensmilchschachteln von Aldi für die Modelle: mit Bus zur S-Bahn, dann zum HH-Hbf, mit ICE nach Köln, zur CSW nach Wesseling, morgens zur Ausstellung und dann das ganze wieder zurück... War eine unvergessliche Zeit!!!
Übrigens Jens; galt Deine Frage der weiß-grauen AU-1? Wenn ja, dann kann ich mich daran erinnern.

Hallo Bernhard , es ging damals allgemein um die Arbeitsweisen mit den Ätzteilen , wie richtet man den Film perfekt aus, und wie verklebt man das dann ohne Versatz, wieso brauche ich für eine Konsole 2 Tuben sek. Kleber 😄 , ich habe damals zwar schon viele Jahre geklebt und lackiert , aber Modellbau im Detail war mir fremd , in Köln habe ich Jens Popp getroffen , und da habe ich dann auch was über Farben erfahren können , für mich waren Tamiya XF - Color das Ein und Alles , RLM und FS kannte ich nicht 😄

aber die Zeit vergeht , Jens Popp und JPS Color sind fast Geschichte , auch wenn ich noch JPS Color von Damals und gebrauchsfähig habe 🙂
Der ganze Modellbau hat ja einen Quantensprung gemacht , Schatton hat gezeigt , was man aus Messing zaubern kann , Andere haben das aufgegriffen und sind nochmal besser , die Resinteile von Aires ,aus der Zeit, wirken gegen heutige ,wie grob geschnitzte Versuche , und jeder Plastikmotor würde da bessere Ergebnisse versprechen . Aber bei allen Fortschritten bist ja Du immer noch bei sehr viel Eigenbau geblieben , und ich denke , das macht auch die überragende Qualli deiner Modell aus 🙂 👍

Hi Bernhard! The flights were good, no turbulence at all and soft landing. The only challenge was that we arrived at 2:00am, while hotel checkin is at 2:00pm. We had to sleep on the hotel guest room sofa and then had a trip to Lemassol center. Unfortunately no modeling shops, but we found some other interesting stuff.

The weather is nice here. It is not too hot and the water is good enough even for my wife (that's exceptional🙂 ). The hotel service and food is great for 3-star hotel. So, I am satisfied very much 🙂

The only thing I miss is airbrush and scalpel 🙂
But I can observe how others are progressing😉 I like your Seasprite build - it is very accurate and full of details 🙂 Keep up good work😉 hopefully you can do hobby early morning or late evening if it's hot 🙂 warm regards!

Thanks! Investing a view hours into small parts was worth it - a good modeling day! Dutch; compared to model builders who invest one year into a model I'm not really patient. Sometimes I'm very impatient and just want to finish. Sometimes I get to a point when time becomes of no importance and then I try to build everything I see. See for example today's "half hour"-progress.

How many colours has the rotor? Unfortunately to many! Blades and flaps; middle grey on top and black on bottom plus steel edges. Rotor head is a colour-patchwork to: different grays, steel, alu and rust here and there. The next step coming soon.

Bernhard,it's not a whole lot of fantasy wrote. I dont do that. And the same can be said when I make comment on someone elses modelling. Being a modeller, you can appreciate the effort and skill another modeller goes to in making a model. And, in my opinion we do it for our own challenge first, the rewards come second and you are due for many of those if you enter a competition with it.

Jens: Wars du bei mir heimlich in meiner "Egoecke" im Planelab? Das kleine Regal habe ich in der Tat 2004 zielorientiert gebaut und hab keinen Platz mehr. Glücklicherweise gibts in Heiden keine Riesenpötte sondern nur Medaillen. Übrigens dieses Jahr in Heiden war es seit fast 10 Jahren das erste mal, dass ich an der Wettbewerbsluft mal schnuppern wollte. EME Heiden 2015: ??

Danke Felix, auch für Anregungen. Zu wenig durchgebogen oder die Spitzen zu wenig hängend? Hmmmmmm... Verglichen mit vielen Bildern hast du Recht: zu wenig ausgeprägt. Hab mich an Bild 88 orientiert. Die Blätter biegen sich ohnehin bei den Seasprite m.e. nicht so deutlich durch wie bei anderen hubis. Im Modell sind es ca. 1,5 cm auf jeder Seite. Vielleicht wirkt es so wegen der Eigenschaften des Objektivs?

Thanks Alan. I plan to visit EME in Heiden next year and show my last finished models. I will attend the exhibition of IPMS Germany in Berlin Gatow this year as a visitor but maybe I will take the Seasprite....

Hallo Bernhard , das sind wohl so die Erfahrungen , die jeder in seinem Hobby mit den Blecheimern oder Pokalen so macht 😄
Wettbewerbe im Modellbau werde ich aber meiden , dafür habe ich einfach nicht den Level,
oder , man würde den Pokal für das schlechteste Modell mitgeben 😄 ok , aber auch dann wären ja die Basteltische heiss umlagert 😄
Allein, was Du an dem Heli ,wieder an Meisterschaft an den Tag legst , und auch die einzelnen Arbeitsgänge dokumentierst , das ist für mich mehr Abschreckung als Anreiz , da fehlt es einfach am Geschick und an der Ausdauer
ich habe wohl einfach nicht die Ansprüche , die mich beim Modellbau soweit bringen könnten 😉
