With these pictures I start the build report on the Tornado F.3: a complex and entertaining kit! The plastic parts are from Revell, the numerous additions, like the resin ejector seat in the picture or the etched instrumentation are of course from Eduard.

Looking good so far! I love the Tornado F.3, an aircraft preceeded by its early bad reputation, but which subsequently became a very decent interceptor after critical upgrades in the winter of 1990 at the dawn of the Desert Storm.
Which subversion of the F.3 are you planing to do?

Hello Marius, thank you for the motivating words! I plan to build the ZG753 proposed in the kit, a No. 111 Squadron aircraft from the 90s.

As mentioned with the GR.1, which is built in parallel: here, too, massive imprecision and inaccuracies of fit have to be dealt with!

I have never built anything in 1:48, but I remember reading about this Tornado kit in 1:48 with people complaining about the fit. It's the first time I see actual pictures and it's shockingly bad. Their 1:72 kit is by miles better in terms of fit (except some areas at the engine intake).
That engine exhaust will be nasty to clean up, frustrating and unnecessary work for 1:48.
Good luck!

Thank you for the encouraging words! As you say, it's also a shame because it's so unnecessary and caused by the nonsensical over-complicated parts design.
But, as the saying goes, you grow with the challenges! 🙂

I haven't reported anything new about the two tornadoes for a while now. The reason for this is that it took a few rounds of filling and sanding to create a reasonably respectable surface. Now most of the parts are finished and we can start thinking about the painting.

After completion of the GR.1, an end to the quite sprawling construction is also in sight for the ADV version. The surfaces are now sealed, the gloss level is still being worked on..... and a whole lot of small parts are still to come! Essentially, however, the model can now be "aged" and dirtied up a little.....

These pictures taken this morning complete the construction of the Tornado ADV. Now the second Tornado is also off the workbench - it was about time, I would like to say diplomatically: those who have followed the construction report up to this point know that this was one of my projects where I had to invest the most extra work; all Valom and MicroMir.... models included 🙂 But the Panavia Tornado is such an impressive aircraft that the only thing left to do now is to enjoy the finished model!
Thank you for all your interest and encouragement, mates!

Uhh, you semm to have had a rough time with this kit. The end result definitely doesn't show it. I like the livery too. Having seen a Tornado at the Museum in Oberschleißheim I was impressed how big it is.

Thank you for your words and your interest - I appreciate it very much! mates.
Michael, my last "encounter" with a Tornado was at the Flugwerft Schleißheim ; incredibly impressive, even as a stationary exhibit!

I agree with Vincent, a bloody excellent result from what looks like a very challenging kit. Those gaps..!
Also impressed with your photographic work.

Always a great feeling when you win the battle against an awful kit with such a fantastic result, right? 🙂 also beautifully presented! 👍

Thank you for the appreciative review - yes, that was a tough ride or, to paraphrase Shakespeare, "The Taming of the Shrew".... 🙂

It took me a few photos to figure out that was a model. Very nice. You're making the rest of us look bad. 😎
