Some progress on my recent project, I will try to build a MiG-21 MF from the Eduard-Kit in the version of the fully weathered "7803" from Slovakian Airforce. The Jet should be weathered as shown on the reference photos in 1995, so I first applied a smooth NMF as a first layer. In a next step I have to found out which AK-chipping fluid will be the best to do this difficult job...Cheers, Christian

Thank you Bart!
Dear Mates, I have made testings with three different chipping-fluids from AK (I do not want to make any merchandise but this products are really great 😉), maybe these are interesting for you too...Cheers, Christian

Very nice work so far, the NMF looks great so far, will be cool to see how you weather it by using those products. Looks like maybe I should invest in some of those!

I'm interested to learn more about the technique to use to get the chipping effects!?
And by the way, very nice work so far Christian 👍
Cheers, Christian

probably you know that, but you can apply the chipping products with a sponge, to produce a random pattern. or also with try to make your airbrush to splatter. there is a spatter cap for some models of Harden and stainbeck. but is possible to do it with any airbrush. it basically trying to do what you always try to avoid with airbrushes 😛
i have seen this techniques done with Vallejo chipping medium, maybe AK work the same way, but i have never used them.

Hallo Christian, der Anfang sieht ja vielversprechend aus. Bin gespannt. wie das Resultat am Flugzeug sein wird. Ist auf jeden Fall eine Herausforderung.

I watched a live demo at the Vallejo stand at the Scale Model Chellange in Eindhoven last year. They used the chipping medium and washed away the last the coat of paint with a flat brush dipped in water. I'm interested if the AK medium works similar?!
19 January 2017, 21:19

Hello Christian, the AK solution Works Similar, it is really easy to do and Looks very good to me. Cheers

Some progress...the first results are very impressive, the AK-solution works just fantastic! wings and underside are finished, and I am very happy with the result - this will become a real show-stopper!

Chrsitian, nice weathering this is going to be a wondefull MiG

I finished the topcoat yesterday and painted the glossy coat as well...Next step will be applying the decals...I am not sure with all the stencils, I guess I will have a closer look on the reference photos and will only put stencils where the paint was not damaged.

Thank you Spanjaard, pictures of the finished model uploaded...I made a small building-report on my website: ristits.at/2017/01/e..mf-cz-airforce-7803/

Impressive MiG-21 Christian! 👍. Does this model represent an aircraft in service, or an abandoned aircraft?
28 January 2017, 13:29

Thank you very much my friends for your kind words!
Gary, this aircraft was one of the first czech-migs which received the new brown-green camouflage...the paintjob failed and so the paint was splitting off during some period. My model represent the 7803 in the year 1995, when it was still in service...Cheers, Christian

Beautiful weathiring job! Just for clarification, isn't this a Slovak MiG? Because the insignia is Slovakian, not Czech...please correct me if i'm wrong
28 January 2017, 21:50

Beautiful weathering, showing off the metal underneath to great effect
29 January 2017, 01:35

Again - thank you very much! Alex, you are correct, the markings were fresh slovakian, not Czechoslovakian...for me its a little bit difficult in my project because the jet shows the paint from a few years in CZ-Service, before getting the new markings of slovakian, maybe I rework the titles...Cheers, Christian

I like those Czech/Slovak and Czechoslovak Fishbeds in camo, but this one is simply epic!
