Some initial progress, major assemblies prepped, glued and fit issues resolved etc.
Just considering how I might emulate a carpet texture for the cockpit floor and gear box cover ... mmm....
As you can see from the ref and what''s on the kit there is plenty of scratch to do 🙂

Had a go at deforming an oil drum for the dio .

Cool idea, watching!

Maybe try spraying Tamiya acrylics "wrong", they can become quite grainy. Or Mr. Surfacer stippled with a very fine sponge... I'm looking for a method too, for my E30. There is some flaking stuff for the car guys too.

Mr Surfacer type stippling was my first thought but I don't have any to hand ..
thought about mixing some talcum powder with that cheap Airfix paint and stippling that on ...
or perhaps diluting some Revell filler with cellulose thinner for a Mr Surfacer type trick.
worth testing both I reckon 🙂

Definitely. I tried your idea with the talcum powder... I must say... nice!
When mixing it, it looked like a filler/cake frosting mix. 😄

Looks a lot better than the stippled Mr Surfacer to me, albeit maybe a bit out of scale, it is quite rough. Could be my technique or choice of paint though. I chose a Revell enamel slightly thinned for the mix and dabbed it on with an old brush. With some more testing (maybe more thinner, acrylic paint or less talcum...) it might turn out a bit more refined.

And it's definitely a superb technique for anti-slip panels on tanks etc... Merkavas for example 🙂
Have you used that mix before?

Nope not yet, never heard of anyone doing it before but it just seemed a possible solution.
I need to try a few tests, Talcum powder, flock, plaster and maybe even tea leaves !! 😄
As long as I get a rough surface that's not too lumpy 🙂

Tea leaves... You are a mad man sir😉

With talcum it looks a bit like sanding paper, roughly grit 240-320 I'd say.
If you can find very flexible 600-800, you could use that😎

looking good so far, for the structure, they also have some flocking material for scale cars (scale production), and some spraycans to I thought

Thanks guys, I need to get back to this wee project soon 🙂
