January 8, 2022Finally I resumed this project, all the pieces I will need to finish the airframe are polished and ready to be painted; the experience done with the wood grain imitation on my Gotha gave me the right motivation to go on...

January 9, 2022While I was checking my reference for the wood panels orientation I remembered that I saw something in the NASM restoration pictures that catch my attention: all the interior wooden panels were green tinted!
At first I thought at some protective paint given by the U.S. Army before ship to the USA, but at a closer look it is clear to me that is not an overall sprayed paint but a proper coat given to the wood parts, sparing all the metal ones.
I upload a pic for clarity
Here the link to the Museum page:

To me this is an original protective paint, probably that heat-sensitive paint that in the references is cited as given to the metal parts but it makes much more sense on the wooden parts.39
January 9, 2022Here the wooden parts painted, red brown oil color over a base coat of Tamiya XF-78 Wooden Deck Tan; the inside received a Tamiya X-25 Clear Green coat, the outside a Galeria satin varnish.40
January 9, 2022When all will be completely dried, I will mask and paint the metal parts.41
January 11, 2022Kittens attack!!! never leave the desk unguarded...
I will have to rebuild the armored front shield and do some touch ups...42
January 15, 2022I must admit that I really like how this little insect is turning out...
I couldn't resist to take some pictures as if it were already over, even if there is lot of work still to do.
Please forgive me for my self-indulgence.43
January 15, 2022Engine covers are dry fitted only.44

January 26, 2022The airframe is now completed, all the small details and pieces added.
I took this few pictures just for fun but now I will take a little break from this project before beginning the small diorama base were this model will go.
I hope you enjoyed the building so far, thanks for your attention and comments!53
