Mig 21 Bis Gate Guard
In making an /144 Mig 21 Bis and I joined the fuselage together without the wheel bay insert. I
continued the build with the wheels retracted in flying configuration but I also had no pilot figure
for the cockpit so I decided a gate guard aircraft might be a good option to display it. I found
this image of a Bulgarian Mig 21PFM as a gate guard at Graf Ignatievo and decided it would be
a good example to model mig-21.de/english/technicaldataversions.htm
The model was built out of the box and painted with Vallejo Air acrylics in the brown, tan and
green camouflage pattern. I used the Bulgarian markings in the kit and mounted it as a gate
guard. It was also armed with RS-3 missiles included in the kit.
The lattice support in the photo was a bit too difficult in 1/144 so I used square plastic and sheet
to make the mount. The base is just a wood base painted and scribed like concrete.
