The Navy experimented with camouflage in Vietnam and I wanted to model an A-6 in this paint scheme instead of the then standard gull gray and white. . I was able to get the CtA No 3 sheet “Welcome to the Jungle '' which included markings for 2 green A-6s from 1966.
My starting point was the Italeri A-6E kit which was built straight from the box with the folding wing option. I only deleted the Tram turret to backdate it to an A-6A. I am sure there are other differences between the two variants but the Tram is the most obvious. I also used some Hasegawa A-6 tanks and pylons for the inboard wing stations as I wanted to use 3 multiple ejector racks for the weapons load. I used Hasegawa weapons set Mk82s nine with fuse extensions and nine snake eyes.
I decided to do the two color scheme using Vallejo Air paints for the FS34079 and FS34097 upper surfaces and FS37875 for the lower surface. Since the upper colors were water based I purposely lightly weathered them to show scuffs and scrapes showing the gull gray underneath. I also added Vallejo dark wash to the recessed panel lines.
