I've built this kit a few times. Pretty basic, but the shape is right (so much better than the old Airfix or the Trumpeter kits)! And I love those over-wing drop tanks! Here is an interesting history of this kit:

Yep, if shape is more important to you than engraved panel lines, this one is still the best option. Let's hope for the announced new-tool Airfix kit. Hopefully it doesn't have panel lines as bad as on their MiG-15 or the Canberra 🙂

I suspect that the new Airfix kit will have panel lines like their most recent releases (A-4, Bf 109E). You can see a nice progression from heavy to thin panel lines if you look at the Hornby releases in chronological order. They're listening to us!

Never seens uch a great fitting o such an old kit.

The wings do not fit so well.
I also made a decision which lightning I will build:
The last Lightning, XR770 which was one of the 2 Lightnings from the last Lightning display in 1987.

Hi Duncan, how's the Lightning going on? I have one in my stash still and look forward to building it sometime this year. Got any hints for me yet?
Go on modelling and have fun!

Well, yes. Got it last autumn because I didn't want to spend big money on the Trumpeter kit and liked the box art, too 🙂 But I think those older kits still have their charms even with raised panel lines. I will put a better seat into it, though (Pavla, I think..).

The Trumpeter kit is not so bad. You just have to replace half of it, and the other half you need to modify:
BAC Lightning F.2A (Trumpeter et al) | Album by Navy Bird (1:72)

It#s done!
Thanks to my friend Jürgen who supplied me with some resinmoulds of the wheels.
I lost one and so I couldn't finish it. Will upload some pictures today.
