A few impressions of a rather tricky build.
A few pictures of a tricky build.
I have no idea how to cut the brittle resin representations of the 20mm cannons from their sockets. It's beyond my imagination. In addition, the inside of the separation point would then have to snuggle flat against the leading edge of the wing. Honestly: this can't be done!
The new plan: I cut the cannon fairings from the base, drill a hole in the wing leading edge and then glue the whole thing in place, leaving it nice and smooth. So far so simple.

Well, the big sanding and filling is over for the time being: I'm glad that I could integrate the fairing of the 20mm guns. How clean it will be, we will see after the first painting!

My favourite WWII aircraft.
Not because it was the best or what it looks like because it exists at all.
It's a physical manifestation of the dire situation Australia was in.
With the Japanese practically on our doorstep, neither the UK or USA could be bothered to help us.
The UK was too busy fighting the War and the USA was too busy not fighting the War and we needed fighter aircraft.
Wackett a Jew who had escaped the Nazis decided to cut down the Wirraway which was a licensed version of the Texans the Commonwealth Aircraft Corporation was already building.
It was meant to have the more powerful Pratt and Whitney R2800 but the Yanks wouldn't let us have them so it just got the little engine we were licensed to build.
It never fulfilled it's fighter status but proved to be an excellent ground attack aircraft.
Unfortunately more were shot down by Yankee fighters than the Japanese but thankfully Yanks also shoot down Yanks and everyone else on their side

Another one you don't often see built up. I'm sure you'll make it shine Roland.

Wilky, Nathan, thank you for these replies! Special thanks for this Australian point of view - this is another reason for the enthusiasm for model building!
A few steps closer to a result where I still don't know exactly how it will turn out; in any case I'm very curious what the white identification will do with the look.

Interesting point about the white identification markings.
First it was just the tail of the aircraft that was white to prevent other aircraft from shooting them down but then the leading edges of the wings had to be done because of friendly fire from ground forces.
You can't see the tail of an aircraft as it approaches front on.
Here's another thing you don't hear much of and is pretty relevant in regards to the official anniversary celebrations of the end of the War in the Pacific
I used to know a Digger.
Unfortunately he passed away many years ago but he would get quite animated when VP day waa mentioned.
For him and many like him the War continued for eight months more.
Only Japan surrendered.
Many islands in the Pacific saw intense fighting until all Japanese had perished because they didn't believe that Japan had surrendered.
The Americans bugged out and went to Japan to enjoy the comforts of victory and left the mopping up to us poor saps

Just out of curiosity.
In the earlier pictures I noticed a CA-12 exhaust pipe.
The CA-13 has the "Hedgehog" exhaust.
Is that in the kit?
If it is then that's what you should use.
They changed the exhaust pipe because the straight out pipe has a huge flame that made the aircraft very visible at night

A wealth of vivid informations - thank you Wilk for the background details about the special marking I want to give this Boomerang! Thanks also for the hint with the "Igel" exhaust; both versions are included in the kit as resin parts, whereby only the hedgehog exhaust is used in all kit versions.

Surfaces nearly have been finished; now some weathering should bring some life on the Boomerangs fuselage and wings!

Those gaps on the fuselage! But what a beauty it turned out to be. Looks like the actual production line, great accessorie there the wooden base.
Very interesting theme, and a great job Roland!

Finished at last! That was a tough ride though! Accordingly, I am glad to have landed the Boomerang somehow and reasonably worthy. Especially the fitting of the resin parts was really challenging and demanded some compromises. But, finally and as said, I'm glad to have finished the project.
Thanks for your interest and your encouragement - I hope you like the pictures!

A hedgehog not in a wallet but as an exhaust pipe, isn't that something new? 🙂 Seriously, it should probably serve as a flame damper.
Your words make me proud, thanks!
