I have started the build of this interesting plane- representing an quite old Classic Airframe kit makes a suitable antipode to the Airfix Spitfire PR XIX!

Interesting project, can't wait to see what you make of it. Didn't the He 112 get beat by the 109 for the Luftwaffe production contract? That thought is rambling around in my brain now that you've triggered it.

A little rework is of course due here - but you can't complain about that with such an aged kit.
You're absolutely right, Bill. The He-112 and the Bf 109 were direct competitors in the bidding for a new Luftwaffe fighter. Better lobbying work by Messerschmitt and difficulties with the complex engine cooling of the He-112 made the Bf 109 the winner, so the story is mostly told.
Would have been exciting if an airplane with such elliptical wings had been found on both sides!

Some surgery on the radiator section! CA provides just a stable cube instead of the upper part of the retractable radiator. The outcome after having worked with scalpel and the offerings of my spare box is not exhilarating.... but better then the initial situation 🙂
Well, maybe there is rescue anyway.....

The yellow markings on the fuselage have been prepared. These will be masked, followed by a refreshed preshading for the remaining areas. Wing gun nozzles have been made of fitting brass tube. Meanwhile masking of the cockpit is progressing.

Thank you Dmitriy and Nathan for your comments! I have painted all the surface colors by now- except the yellow tailfin. Emphasizing the panel lines with an appropriate washing will be important.

Little by little the He-112 is nearing completion. The vac-formed canopy is attached and smoothed and sanded to get in good shape, but this work is still nit finished. The wing guns have been done with brass tubes, the muzzles in the cowling have been drilled open. Next- and one of the final steps- will be applying a decent washing.

The He-112 is finished! According to the age and the execution of the kit - up to the last moment - additions and improvements had to be carried out. The landing gear struts are made of brass tubes of different diameters, except for the main landing gear leg.
This material was also used for the muzzles of the machine guns and cannons.
My execution has its weaknesses, but I am now very glad and also a little proud to have brought this complex project to a bearable end.
Thank you for your interest and helpful comments - I hope you like the pictures!

Splendid work, nicely build and painted. Those Hungarian markings make it a bright appearance...
