Tired of awaiting this one in 1/72 i decided to get a go with the Fujimi semi toy offering in 1/144.

How do you solve the nose weight problem on such kits?
I screwed things up adding nose weight to this seaplane that is still pending completion, a year after I started airbrushing it. I made the mistake of forgetting to add nose weight into the nose itself, so.. I put the weigh into the two floaters.. Bad idea! The floaters are flimsily glued onto the aircraft, making things prone to snap and really weird to hold in my hand. Eventually I left the two floatters snapped and detached to be glued on later.

@Rick welcome and yap it would be close to a Peacemaker in Dimensions
I think anigrand has one but this is waste of money and time.

You mean Anigrand has one in 1/72? I thought they had it only in 1/144.
Though Unicraft was working on one in 1/72 but i think that project is suspended :/

Added another pic to show the difference. The dark grey sprue is from the 1/72 short run RAndy by Sword.
There are more issues. Do not use Tamiya thin cement too generously wth the material of this kit. (last Pic). I am really somewhat pissed now!
And though 35g of lead are in the nose and the engine nacelles it is still a tail sitter😭

I am quite sure that this is not a origin Fujimi mold. Any idea who did these for them?
They were offered also prepainted and assembled in the beginning, i just remarked.

The propellers look a little hm rounded to my eyes. Probably a good idea to go over the propeller blades gently with a sanding stick or file to make the blades look sharper.

Thanks and Welcome Roberto! It was a big mistake to use the Tamiya thin that generously in an area where it doesn' had any chance to vapor out. Damned. Now i will have to wait another day with the filling of the crater. Perhaps it is still working in there.
Hi Tree yap, of course they will become some sanding

It is: The wingspan of the 1/144 model is nearly 50cm and the length is 35,6cm. The original would have had a wingspan of about 70meters and 45 meters in Length.More than twice as big as a B-17

Hey Guys, thank you for your interest and your encouraging words. 👍
After a few days of waiting the Tamiya should have vapored out now, and so i filled the sinkmarks with vallejo putty and sanded it wet.
Next masking is on the schedule for this

Hm, what fictional Paint scheme should i do? Prototype orange overall, camo khaki and dark green over light green gray (like the early Betties), mottles over green gray (Like the Sally, Peggy or Helen) or Navy Dark green over Light green Gray or NMF, or complete NMF with coloured rudders etc...

I would go with Navy Dark Green over Light Green Gray. Or maybe the NMF with colored rudders. For some reason i think a camo is unusual for high altitude strategic bombers.
Great progress so far though!

Q: I am curious. Ho.. How did you mask the round viewports on the sides? Liquid mask?
I can't imagine that particular clear part to be easy to mask if already been glued onto the model.

Hi Treehugger, yes with Maskol. Due to the snap kit engineering nearly all parts are glued from the inside and you have to fit and fix them before painting.

Aah, I guess I would add some masking effect on the parts, then glue them on, then paint. 🙂 Never occurred to me to do it this way until now.

Impressive plane. Anigrand also kitted it (in resin); the cockpit area looks different from Fujimi's. To my eyes IJN green always looks good; keep up the great work!

That is always a good idea Alex. in natural light this green is in my opinion even more impressive.
But you have to build a Navy plane and the color is called IJN Navy Dark green and the Vallejo color is really good.
But i have to say it is very difficult to make shots of such a big bird with these sleak proportions.
BTW it is finished🙂

It looks very nice in the natural sunlight I think. I hope you can make some photos from a human perspective, to get to see the lower part of the bomber.

@Bobin No and the Fujimi kit does not really show the Fugaku project as it was planned to built. The Anigrand offer scalemates.com/kits/167243-a..a-4010-nakajima-g10n1-fugaku is the choice for all who want to build the version that was really planned to be built.
It is smaller with less engine Power and bob load.
As did Fujimi I gave my project here the wrong name because it should be called Nakajima "Project Z America Bomber" cause it is the last and biggest draft with 6x HA54 5000HP engines, the size of the B-36 Peacemaker and a bomb load of 20t.

Japanese Giant Bomber Project.
This thing would have been so big.
Sanded off all snap kit pins and marks for better fit.
Will try to let it look not like a toy in the end🙂
