Eugène George Achilles Seghers, was born in Ledeberg near Ghent on April 7th, 1910. His came from a working class family, his father was a fire stoker at the Belgian Railways. He became a military pilot in 1931. He flew with Fairey Fox at the 5/III/1Aé and at the 6/III/2Aé .
He was one of Churchill's Few in the Battle of Britain as Hurricane pilot at the 32 and 46 squadrons.
In April 1941 he joins the 609 Sq , as many other Belgians, flying the Spitfire Vb. In April 1942 he joins the 165 Sq, and was there Squadron Leader from March to June 1943. He was awarded a DFC on February 13, 1943. Later, he serves with 52 Operational Training Unitand the Central Gunnery School.
In June 1944, he joins 91 Sq. On July 26, 1944 he attacks a V-1 above Uckfield, Sussex, the bomb explodes and Eugène Seghers is killed, with his Spitfire XIV RM653.
The project is to build the aircraft flown by this pilot and a diorama of his last flight and killing.
