Hello,
about two weeks ago I have startes with a new Triplane- project. It seems to me as if Roden has packed somewhat heavily built parts into this kit, but the way of construction is clever and the fit is remarkable good. Some filling and sanding is to be done before first colour is sprayed on.
Cheers Roland

Was genau meinst Du mit "sieht gut aus"? Ah, das Modell... 🙂
Tja, Wing- NUTs würde da wohl für andere Gefühle sorgen...

Thank you guys!
I have added ypictures of yesterdays painting-output. The underside was done with Gunze "Sail Colour"- a close match of the real thing, I guess. I used this colour to highlighten cerain parts of the upper surface.

Here are new pictures of the recent status.
Rodens "rodden" decals have proved their bad reputation to me again; my fingers seemed to be much too clumsy moving them...
I hope to repair the cracks and fissures with brush and some white paint.

It looks great .... i like it ...
(hmmm should i buy one of these Wingnut Kits ... A WW I plane in 1:32 its cool)
I'm curious on the rigging.
What product do you use for that?
25 May 2013, 11:16
Roland Sachsenhofer
Thank you both!
Albi, bracing will be done with 0,3mm "BA wires" aerodynamic rigging from RB Productions. That´s a photoetched product from a Romanian producer.
If it was a question: Yes! Wingnut Wings makes marvellous kits! Get one! I have a Roland D.VI and a Sopwith Pup on my stash- end I spend a lot of time opening the boxes and enjoying the dellicious parts...
For the Roden Triplane I am informing myself from the downloadable Wingnut kit instruction. Have a look at their homepage.
Maybe you know that all, if not I guess you will like it 🙂

Hi Roland,
How big is this triplane?
I built the Revell kit in 1:72 like 1000000 years ago.

Roland Sachsenhofer
Hi Duncan,
it´s 32 times smaller than the original, let´s say 1900mm in length and 2500mm wing-span...
Making a further try on the Triplane after 1000000 years?
26 May 2013, 15:15
Duncan Cook
Maybe. 🙂

Hi Roland,
How were the decals?
I tried to apply the Decals to my LaGG yesterday and the glue of the decals was so agressive, it removed the paint on the kit right to the plastic.
I applied 2 coats of green and 1 black and 2 coats of future, were there any problems with yours?

Hello Duncan,
I am sorry to hear that, but it fits to my experiences with Roden-decals. I have to commit that this Triplane is just my second Roden kit, but here it´s the same as with the Fokker Dr.I: the decals ripped frequently appart during applying, proved to be translucant in a very unpleasant way- and, once slid on the model, the could hardly be moved on the correct position. The glue had "concreted" them on the position of the first contact with the models surface. Melting the paint off the model- thats new to me, but it doesn´t make me wonder....
Are you using enamel or acrylic paint?

Hi Roland,
Very nice build and paint Job so far! It sucks to hear rhat the decals were of such bad Quality. I once had decals witha different kit that dissolved into thousands of tiny pieces as soon as they got in contact with water...
However, you managed to pull it off, despite the low Quality decals.
Great Job!
Best regards,
Heli

Oh yes Helmut, it´s a pity... Your story gives just another example why I will avoid Roden kits -or at least their decals- for a while...
Thank you for your encouragement!
Duncan, I am using acrylics as well...

Hello,
looking like a somehow odd biplane, Sopwith Triplane has got its second pair of wings. The surfaces have been finished except some final touches; a lot of imperfections on the wings depicts the preparation for the rigging. They will vanish- so I hope"- under finishing sanding and repainting. For example I have cut out the leading edges of the upper wing pair and trilled a hole into to let a bracing pass through.
I thing is evident: it will take a serious amount of time and patience to get a satisfying rigg!
By the way: the rigging on the tailplane is finished. I have used "R&B Producions" etched RFC/ RAF bracing: that´s a wounderful medium and looks just right! On the other hand it´s very delicate to apply because it has one flat and one broad side. I am looking forward to the coming experience! 🙂

Hallo Roland!
Respekt vor dieser Arbeit. Roden Bausätze sind bestimmt nicht Anfänger tauglich, aber ein Profi wie Du macht das Beste da raus. Das wird wie immer ein top Modell von Dir!

Got my Sopwith Triplane finished this weekend!
I experienced new procedures with this build, especially the use of etched rigging material... a improvable "first", that I hope to do better in the next occasion.
Rodens Triplane seems to be a rough diamonds which needs some extra effort to a certain extent, but can be made to an impressive model.
Especially I am happy to have mastered Rodens out-of-hell decals!

Thank you Michel, but Sopwiths engineers prepared a quite stable construction -and Rodens engineers followed that structure. More challenging for me was the "etched" riggíng...

A building that is long gone, but I am all the more pleased with your words, thank you very much Dave! Yes, I agree, it was one of my first "grubbing experiences".... Nevertheless, I wish you much joy, the finished model will look beautiful!
