With these pictures I am starting a project that I am deliberately building parallel to the Boeing 307 'Stratoliner': both aeroplanes are apparently based on the same concept and not only have identical designs, but also share components such as wings, landing gear and engines. The Academy kit has an excellent fit and a refreshing simplicity, so to speak: the interiors would be practically empty except for the simplest seats. So I borrowed a little from my etched parts box and fitted the metal seats with matching upholstery. It certainly looks better than originally! 🙂

The fuselage halves are now together - the accuracy of fit remains excellent...

Thank you mates!
The pictures are no longer up to date, but show an important step forward: all clear parts are masked!

To avoid giving the impression that nothing has happened: the first layer of Alclad 'White Aluminium' has already been applied over this black!

Now the B-17B has its NMF dress and will not take it off: in the meantime I have sprayed a layer of gloss paint so that I can start applying the decals tomorrow.

That makes me very happy - thank you!
A few quick pictures of the current state: I tried to apply the decals yesterday, but the Academy material turned out to be extremely brittle. The beautiful decal marking in red-white-blue on the rudder was a complete self-destructior - and that to such a clear and impressive extent that I even wanted to take a photo of it, because it looked funny 🙂
Well, no big deal, I'll just spray this part myself. In general, the photos make it clear that the decals need to be repaired or even redone in some places.

Many times it is better to paint instead of using some decals. Luckily that has an easy solution, Roland. You do much more complicated arrangements than this and always have very good results. Cheer up!

A few new pictures of the B-17B under construction: the tail is now in the characteristic red-white-blue colour scheme, now the phase begins in which the need for improvement and touch ups is recognised and the various small parts such as antennas, brake lines or the engines/cowling - well, here one can no longer speak of "small parts" due to the amount of etched parts. I can't wait to see how the clear parts have held up under the masking!

My poor command of Tschürman tells me it's done - congrats, it looks very cool in this colourful NMF 👍
