First pictures to open this project. The venerable Italeri kit suggests a cockpit interior which never existed in this way: control sticks instead of full-round control wheels- and the conspicuous inner strut of a CG-4 is completely missing. So I am guided to hint a little at the distinctive interior: with brass rods and home-made control wheels a start has been made; I will add some more bracing there. As I said, this is a start to completely rebuild the interior.

I built this kit a couple years ago. I made the cockpit structure with round plastic-stock. Used alot of Google images to try to figure the tube placement.

There is a restored example in the US. A lot of the Google search images are of this machine.

Only problem I had was my wings ended up with a bit of an anhedral. Double check the length of the struts!

Hello Gordon! Your information and pictures were a great help - and will continue to be. I congratulate you on the impressive model that you have created from these old moulds!

I am still very much on the way: the cockpit interior I have made in a lower and an upper half, which have only now been joined together towards the end. The arrangement of the various lacquered brass rods tries to at least follow the original, I also have a few control cables of the construction guided by pulleys on the cockpit roof by "invisible thread".
In addition, everything will now be well sealed on the outside so that no spray can get inside.
It remains exciting - I will only find out what the final result will look like after de-masking 🙂

With the danger of hanging wings in the background- thank you Gordon!- the assembly of the components took place - so far that the CG-4 is now ready for the "Neutral Grey/ Olive Green" combination after preshading. As I will show a machine used in "Operation Thursday", Burma 1944, signs of wear and use will be visible.

An ugly duckling... for the time being, I hope! Or should I say "old crow"? 🙂
In the next step, however, bracing and support struts as well as the arrangement of the undercarriage will bring some life to it.

The final stage meant a lot of work, as I had to remove all the struts, braces, rudder horns, rudder levellers.... and the pitot tubes above the cabin roof. The original parts of the kit, if they existed at all, were really not to be used.
This project has been a great pleasure, but that does not mean that I am not happy to have come to an end with it! The kit is now really out of date, a new CG-4 long overdue. But I am happy to have the second glider of my yearly project "military glider" in the showcase!

Great result Roland. No matter the difficulties you had, you've produced another beauty. 🙂

I like the little guy with his 'chute on the back. Not sure he is so happy with the prospects lying ahead...

Guy, Olivier, thank you for your comments!
Yes, the little guy has forced his way into the picture, although as a paratrooper he doesn't belong in a CG-4, but what the heck, at least he gives a good size comparison.

I gather you like gliders. Would you treat us to a Gotha glider ?

Diese Alte Krähe sieht super gut aus und ist wirklich etwas Besonderes, das man nicht oft als Model sieht. Mich hat ihre Abbildung in den alten Italeri-Katalogen immer fasziniert.

Thank you for these wonderful remarks mates! Indeed, I have just started with a DFS 230, this will be followed by a Me 321. After that I am planning at least one of ICMs new Gotha 242!
Ja, diese Italeri Modelle und Schachtelbilder sind auch Teil meiner Jugendjahre, da geht es mir genauso! Yeah, these Italeri models and box pictures are also part of my youth years, I feel the same way!
