The overall fit of the kit and the details are really good. Nearly no Putty needed..
Not bad for an more than 20 years old tool.

I was missing this job. Looks great. Well done so far, Daniel.
I have the N1K3-J version in my stash, and yours could inspire me 😉

Hi Guys, thanks for joining and for your kind words. @Gordon Yes though the experiences of Scale Modellers using the AK True Metal wax are mediocre, I will give it a go. The Underside will get a full NMF, and the upperside of the fuselage only in the Areas where chipping is intended.

The result by now is somewhat not satisfying. Partially good but in some areas no way to get a even and smooth effect on it. I thin i will returm to the Gunze Metal polish colours or the Alclad, which i do not like to wotk with but the results are much better.

Thank you Mate, still a little bit of improvement and experiments with the under surface going on.
The kit decals are also not the best Choice so far.. But the kit itself is a pleasure to build

Good to see you back on your bench! Was a bit confused about the order of the pictures, but to look at the date helps 🙂

Started with the weathering and washing, random Panels in differnt shades of the green and i will try some postshading with this one. The panel lines are really very dominant, not like the AIrfix kit but sure a bit overdone

Hi Rick,
thank you and you're welcome..
I have to say i am somewhat pissoed, with the new Gunze Top Coat (Flat) can.
Never had any problems with the old ones. But with this I ruined my paintjob nearly completely. Instead of a even and smooth flat surface i got this glossy and rough tank surface, and nearly all the shadowing and shading has been swallowed. Now i Have to wetsand the hole shit down again.
It would have been better to use the Airbrush with the AK ultra matt Varnish...damn... And the Green is much too deep and darkened after coating with the Gunze....

Pity to read that. I have to admit though, I also tried some of the Gunze and Citadel varnish cans, but they are very crappy when compared to the new Gunze GX varnishes. Just a hint 🙂

Yap the GX VArnishes are really top but they smell like Hell and you got to be fast with them.
Nevertheless i got through it and sanded the orangeskin down and added the AK Ultra Varnish Matt second and third Picture. Looks better -now does it?
Now I have to to the shading once again with the decals already added...hm

Still less than the good old enamels 😉
Sorry, but I got lost with the picture order, which one is the latest & greatest?
Maybe a thinned smoke would be good for some postshading? Or extremely thinned dark grey? Or even black?

Thx, it looks bit weathered already, but I assume that was the intention. Apart from that I think it looks good after sanding (my sanding usually screws things up much more) 🙂

Hey Guys, recent Pictures show the sanded and recoated surface of my Shibdeb.. Some wathering added (and yes the japanese Navy Planes often looked that battered even with only some hundred Flying hours completed 🙂 ) There are only some areas of the engine cover that needs to get a hand on.
Nex step is to paint the yellow frontstripe on the wingroots and the Guns, the Exhaust "stripes" .. . then some postshading with thinned smoke and Kawanishi green along the panels.... I am quite satisfied with the result so far with this oob Kit .. The new Gunze Coat cans will disappear in the dark ede of a drawer 🙂

Looking awesome Daniel 👍. Too bad about the Gunze product. I use them, so made myself a note.

Hi ALec and Christian,
thank you both for the kind words, The Shiden is nearly finished ANtenna is rigged Canopy is on and now theres is just some Panellining and shading left to do.
And of course the exhaus stripes...
@Alec could have been my fault.. But i never experienced this kind of Problems with the old Bue Cans of Gunze.

Looking great! I really like the weathering. It's so easy to go overboard on that.

Thank you guys! Much appreciated 👍
@Lukasz These squadron Machines were really battered, for they latest a while and weren't shot down immediately after commissioning 😉
@treehugger that honours the result thanks 👍
@Greg, yap once you started scraping it is hard to stop 🙂
@Rick Thank you mate

I'm curious how you accomplished that scraping weathering. Did you use the hairspray technique? I want to do something similar for my 1/144 Zero, but I not sure how to handle the hinomaru red dots. Any time there's more than one coat involved (red/green in this case) I'm never quite sure of what to do because the upper coat seems to protect the lower one from coming loose. In my case the layers are plastic/aluminum/Future/hairspray/red/green... so I can't get the red that's underneath the green to come off.
Do I just have to mask everything so carefully that all the paint colours sit on the same level? Do I need multiple layers of hairspray and future?

Hi Greg, spaanjard is right i used the Vallejo Chipping medium widely over the Alu..
But in some Areas it behaved not as expected and much more of the final color coat has been removed with it than planned. For smal areas like in panellines or canopy etc. I use the Prismacolor PC 753 metallic silver
