Nice, is this the prototype or a experimetal type of Crusader?

The kit represented an F-8E WITH the hump on wing upper side. Bu. Nr. 141340 was however an early F8U-1 without the hump. You must remove the hump but first you must fill it from the inner side. If you do not do this there will be a hole (see picture 4 from the DF-8F - project).

Just noticed that the 141340 is an curiosum: obviously an F8U-1 but eqiped with cooling inlets on aft fuselage and dorsal fins. No refueling probe bulge and no red collisions lights (upper and lower fuselage). Cannon muzzles covered.

Veeery dusty business....... but very satisfying, once you've reached the stage of smoothness in light streaks ! 🙂
Any CA left ? 😄

OK, I'm jùst away for a business trip and Bernhard has already built a next masterpiece... Hard to keep up with this speed and attention to detail! 😉

Is there any chance you will ever do an OOB build, just glue it together and paint it? Like the old days? Could give us mortals the illusion we know what we're doing. 👍

Very cool subject and an excellent build so far (as usual 🙂)! 👍👍

Die Bugnase mit der Antenne erinnert mich irgendwie an einen Schwertfisch , da schließe ich mich doch auch einmal den zahlreichen followern an 😉

OOB: I wish I could this.... I think I have the best chance using an Tamiya-Kit.
The last gun fighter: The most kits are obviously designed for an open display of the wheel wells. It was a lot of work to puzzle together all seven parts of the doors & co area.

This will be a great replica! Bernhard: Do you wash the panel lines with plastic cement to smooth and minimize them?
16 March 2018, 21:20
Bernhard Schrock
Thank you Thomas. 🙂. Yes, I'm using ethylacetate (plastic welder = a kind of "plastic glue"😢 to smooth them and removing of sharp edges & "Grat" (don't know what Grat meaning in english).

The most crusaders build of the excellent Hasegawa kits represented an E or a N variants WITH the IR sensor on the base of the windscreen. Hasegawa molded this part with a notch for correct alignment of the IR sensor, so makes it impossible to build an early variant by leaving out the sensor. This problem I had 15 years ago also (DF-8F) and I had no choice but to vacuum formed the windscreen. On the picture 18 you can see left the failed attempt to fill the notch with clear material.

Sometimes it is just luck: exactly were I need to drill a hole to blast away the sanding dust on the inner side there is a blue patch on both sides of the fuselage. 🙂🙂🙂

Glück muss man haben ! 😄

Beautiful work as always Bernhard! I believe 141340 served as the prototype for the F-8C (F8U-2), which is why it has ventral strakes and air scoops.

Metal looks very authentic, postshaded ?

Mates: Thanks for watching. I'm glad that you like my last gun fighter - project.
Bill: of course you are right! I must have been blind. I was kind of focused on the fact that all prototypes we're supposed to have an Y or X in the AC -Type designation.
Hanno: this is the original mixture which I invented 22 years ago: Testors Metalizer and Mr Metall Alminute. The difference today is that I added a bit of Testors Sealer. No preshading no, post shading but only polishing🙂
Dacals are in place. Decent washing coming soon.

Thank you Mates. Inded: the probe was probably about 3,5 m (11,33" ) long and could look good on a medieval knight🙂
"About"= I guested this by using the both pictures.
Hanno: this are "quick pictures" made by smartphone. I will take out my Nikon tomorrow for some better pictures.
