Quinto Studio has a certain reputation for not only having invented 3D decals, but also for still making the best ones today. In this respect, I was curious when I had the opportunity to use a full set of them in the cockpit of the Nasa F-18 for the first time. I would like to show you a few pictures here.

This project is also gaining momentum again: the F-18B is now showing its sleek shapes in full, the surfaces are now ready, filled and sanded, waiting for their first contact with the pre-shading colours

Wow, very nice! I also like to watch if I'm allowed to.
It would be very interesting to see a review comparing al the nice 3D-decal manufacturers like Quinta Studio, Eduard Space, Kelik, Red Fox Studio ... I'm sure there are more. But competition stimulates business (and keeps prices down 😉 )
Have fun!

Your interest makes me happy - and the words motivate me. Thank you, mates! Bughunter: 'keeping the price down' Certainly comes to mind, especially with Quinta.... Whether it's worth it remains to be seen.

Two work steps in one update: first you see the pre-shading in light and dark colour tones, then the applied dark blue of the sleek NASA side lines. I have mixed the colour tone of this as close as possible to that of the Caracal decals; because a mixture of both techniques is used: Decal and paint. The many curves and undercuts in the engine intakes do not allow the use of decals, and a narrow gold border must also be applied. Well, the front area up to the nose tip can be done with decals!

There is also news about the NASA Hornet. Here things have progressed so far that I can say: the combination of decal and paintwork has worked quite well! The front part of the dark blue stripe from the air intakes to the nose is made of decal material (Caracal), the blue area behind it up to the tail is applied with an airbrush. To my eye, there is no real difference in colour. Now there is still a long way to go, which will lead to the goal via numerous small parts and repair work....

The quality of your work is great as always, but what impresses me even more is the effectiveness of your work! Apart from that, your speed is inexplicable - or do you have a twin brother and you work on the models at the same time?

No twin brother, no helping elves, well, at least not in the literal sense.... but the enjoyable conversations here, the motivating feedback and all your encouraging interest is a strong fuel that helps to move things forward. With this in mind: thank you!

Today I was also able to finish the F-18B in unusual NASA colours. The Hasegawa kit was upgraded a bit with ResKit wheels and nozzles. By the way, the decals are not from the kit but from Caracal. Some of the antennas were made from wire or similar, otherwise this beautiful but already aged kit has brought relatively carefree modelling recreation.
