With these pictures the construction of the micro Mirs DH.88....is open! The two figures are from my spare box. I tried to give both of them a uniform or at least coordinated looking flying suit, which resulted in all kinds of carving with the scalpel. Well, I am aware of the limitations, but also of the fact that despite the generous "glass house" of the DH.88, there will effectively not be much to see of the two. At least I like the lively pose of the front pilot figure: do you also think he looks a bit like the actor Fernandel in the Don Camillo films?

Thanks for comments and interest-feel welcome with pleasure!
Well, the choice is quite difficult, but not only the aesthetics of the colour scheme but also the people behind the machines helped me to decide. The black G-ACSP "Black Magic" with the pilots Amy Johnson and Jim Mollison will not be it. Neither do I like the colour nor do the "Flying Sweetharts" present themselves too sympathetically. I would prefer the green G-ACSR: Ruben's British-racing green Comet has accumulated an interesting history - starting with the record-breaking return flight from Australia - but I would still have to get the decals. So it will be, and I am very happy with it, G-ACSS "Grosvenor House". Well known, but still the most beautiful one for me! 🙂

The following pictures have something violent about them: in fact, the structure of the individual parts could only be joined together under pressure to form the fuselage of a Comet - a crack on the fuselage on the left under the cockpit, which I only noticed in the photos, gives evidence of this.
Then, however, things look quite good. The abundantly spread CA glue also serves as filler; by now I always do this where there is a lot of sanding to be done.

Watching with pleasure (and I wholeheartedly agree with Christoph Kunz 😉 )

The canopy is now on - this will be smoothed out with special attention. As you can see, the fit does not seem to be the best. Apart from that, I'm looking forward to the filling - actually even more to the result! 🙂

The DH.88 is just proving that it also makes a captivatingly beautiful form as a model! Here you can see the machine freshly filled and sanded, now a first coat of yellow will be applied to check the surface quality. This also serves as a base for the following red.....

Almost a pity that there was no "yellow"! A few mistakes have been recognised and treated with sandpaper/ filler- now on to powerful red!

Beautiful machine, and great to see an 'in flight' project from an era when the pilots were as stylish & famous as the aircraft!

Glad to see that the "flying" version is of interest. I had actually hoped that the two figures would turn out to be accurate portraits of Charles William Anderson Scott and Tom Campbell Black 🙂

They are really good figures. It was just the lack of painted moustaches that throw me to at first

I think that's very positive and really nice to get highly amazing portraits of them from you right away. I'm very pleased - although I didn't explicitly search for a lengthy time, I was still interested in an image of the two. The fact that I now have this material is one of the many advantages of this community - thank you, Matthew!

Red at last! The Dh.88 has found its final surface shape; I don't really want to change anything big anymore. I reduced the gloss level after applying the decals, because I have the impression that the original was not that shiny. The rudder balance weights and the pitot tube are self-made with wire and Klearfix. During construction I build up the cone of the headlight fairing with layers of glue fix, each of which dries through. However it turns out - it will be better than the "clear part" of the kit! 🙂

Looks spot on

It wasn't very glossy before it was re-skined in the 1980s

Very nice, I love this plane; I see the kit is quite bad, but you are managing it really well! 👍

I am very pleased with your estimation, Ricardo! The "Comet" is in the home stretch, tomorrow I would like to take a few pictures of the finished model and then show them to you, of course. The design of the base is quite enjoyable at the moment; you will see why! 🙂

Micro Mir's DH.88 - praise be for a "DH Comet" model in 1:48! - had me dancing quite a bit, but now she is finished. This morning I was able to take a few pictures that I would like to show you here. Mikro Mir has sent a really well equipped kit into the race, which just has to struggle a bit with the accuracy of fit. But, as you can see, nothing that can't be mastered with a little joy and perseverance. Full recommendation for this beautiful kit of the most beautiful aircraft in the world! Thank you for your interest and your helpful and motivating comments, mates!

Tremendous! The inflight display is terrific! If you don't mind, I think I would like to employ your highly effective 'wispy clouds at speed' .. really energises the display. Great stuff, congratulations.

Your words and reactions please me enormously, many thanks for praise and interest! Somehow aeroplanes are constructed for the element air and unfold their beauty in this configuration, so I am pleased when my attempts to depict these machines flying are well received.

There was no doubt, right from the start, that the end-result would be great. But the decision to go for an in-flight mode, combined to terrific photography, take this to another level - fantastic job on this iconic subject!
