Album info

de Havilland DH.106 Comet 4B reg. G-APDN with British Overseas Airways Corporation (BOAC) c. 1960s
(Hawk De Havilland Comet Airliner in ~1/144 scale, kit #HL512 ©2016 (née Lindbergh, © 1968)

Depicts notional BOAC Comet 4B.

G-APDN entered service with BOAC in 1959 and flew with them until 1966 when she was sold to Kuwait Airlines for a brief period of service, In 1968, she was transferred to Dan Air of London and successfully flew charters for them until 3 July 1970, when the crew mis-reported their position and were directed to descend over dangerous terrain in instrument conditions. She crashed into the wooded slopes of the Serralada del Montseny near Arbúcies, in the Province of Girona of Catalonia, Spain. The crash resulted in the aircraft's destruction and the deaths of all 105 passengers and 7 crew on board.

May they all rest in peace.

Paints are Wal-Mart rattle can grey primer and gloss white, with Tamiya acrylic metallic (X-13 Titanium Silver). Registration number is printed at home. Clear windows filled tapes with High-temp polyimide tape (Kapton?) with silicon adhesive and filled with 2-Part Crystal Clear Casting resin, both fairly inexpensive on Amazon.

I purchased the kit at Ollie's Bargain Outlet just a few months ago in 2022. The Lindbergh kit, and the Hawk re-box, was crafted with a gimmicky opening fuselage to reveal an interior full of 2x2 rows of seats and even a few pax. It also included a bus, fuel truck, and accessory cart that, per the helpful instructions, you can park under the tail to keep the kit's nose on the ground!

Note: G-APDN was actually a Comet 4C with external wing tanks, but I felt a tribute to those lost in this tragedy was appropriate.
