Beautiful subject! Looks like you're up to the challenge this kit presents. The paintwork looks great so far.

I'm curious if you were able to finish it yet? A great subject, I just stumbled across the Glencoe kit at an antiques mall. Looks like a challenge, glad to see your photos, that paint job really pops.

Not yet - I got stuck building the ski gear. Got the skis built, but haven't found decent pictures of the landing gear connections to the wings/root, so it sits waiting for more research!

Hi Geoff, seeing the reference pic from the Byrd expedition, that is about as annoying of a source as you can get 🙂
There is another photo that you've probably also seen, [img1]
One guy built it to be like huge triangular plates (imodeler.com/2015/06..ds-expedition-plane/) that I suspect is based on the photo from WisconsinHistory.org. Just my gut reaction but I feel like they were covers, boots or spats, of canvas or maybe leather to stop ice/muck building up on the suspension (oleo struts, or whatever). Perhaps if they were for covering things up, you can get away with something hidden underneath 😉

Thanks mart b for the input. That photo and the build diary are both helpful and may be enough to drag this beast back in to the workbench!
