Tired of awaiting this one in 1/72 i decided to get a go with the Fujimi semi toy offering in 1/144.
18 November 2018, 10:17

How do you solve the nose weight problem on such kits?
I screwed things up adding nose weight to this seaplane that is still pending completion, a year after I started airbrushing it. I made the mistake of forgetting to add nose weight into the nose itself, so.. I put the weigh into the two floaters.. Bad idea! The floaters are flimsily glued onto the aircraft, making things prone to snap and really weird to hold in my hand. Eventually I left the two floatters snapped and detached to be glued on later.
18 November 2018, 10:55

Following!
This thing would be a beast in 1/72 scale Daniel! Still hoping it will come out eventually...
18 November 2018, 13:17

Hey treehugger. i use split shot "Schrotblei" in german . i use patafix oder whiteglue to fix it inside.
18 November 2018, 13:41

@Rick welcome and yap it would be close to a Peacemaker in Dimensions
I think anigrand has one but this is waste of money and time.
18 November 2018, 13:42

You mean Anigrand has one in 1/72? I thought they had it only in 1/144.
Though Unicraft was working on one in 1/72 but i think that project is suspended :/
18 November 2018, 15:00

@Rick the sprues were already planned for 1/72 or 1/48 as it seems 🙂 see Pic 8
19 November 2018, 22:31

Hi Greg, yes but see how big they are! Diameters of 5mm to nearly one cm 🙂
19 November 2018, 23:14

Ahh... I suppose that does seem a bit suspicious. Either way, this is looking really nice already.
19 November 2018, 23:19

Thanks Greg. and yes it is suspicious cause it is not typical for japanese or asian Manufacturers.
20 November 2018, 00:07

Added another pic to show the difference. The dark grey sprue is from the 1/72 short run RAndy by Sword.
There are more issues. Do not use Tamiya thin cement too generously wth the material of this kit. (last Pic). I am really somewhat pissed now!
And though 35g of lead are in the nose and the engine nacelles it is still a tail sitter😭
20 November 2018, 11:07

I am quite sure that this is not a origin Fujimi mold. Any idea who did these for them?
They were offered also prepainted and assembled in the beginning, i just remarked.
20 November 2018, 11:11

The propellers look a little hm rounded to my eyes. Probably a good idea to go over the propeller blades gently with a sanding stick or file to make the blades look sharper.
20 November 2018, 16:39

Thanks and Welcome Roberto! It was a big mistake to use the Tamiya thin that generously in an area where it doesn' had any chance to vapor out. Damned. Now i will have to wait another day with the filling of the crater. Perhaps it is still working in there.
Hi Tree yap, of course they will become some sanding
20 November 2018, 17:29

Oh, this looks fun - you are going to have to park it on the wall to display it.
20 November 2018, 18:50

that is a big fellow, almost no space in the bench. pity what happened with glue, but sure you will fix it right 🙂 👍
21 November 2018, 12:14

@Dave yes even in 1/144 it will order a lot of space on the shelf
@Spanjaard I'll do what i can😉 And is this an impressive thing or what??😉
21 November 2018, 19:14

It is: The wingspan of the 1/144 model is nearly 50cm and the length is 35,6cm. The original would have had a wingspan of about 70meters and 45 meters in Length.More than twice as big as a B-17
21 November 2018, 19:41

Hey Guys, thank you for your interest and your encouraging words. 👍
After a few days of waiting the Tamiya should have vapored out now, and so i filled the sinkmarks with vallejo putty and sanded it wet.
Next masking is on the schedule for this
25 November 2018, 20:34

Yep, he is absolutely not alone building, I think he has got a Crew 😉))!
1 December 2018, 19:11

🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂
Made my Day Mates 👍👍 That would be so great if that could become true 👍
1 December 2018, 20:44

You must confuse me with Jens anyway. he is the serial scaler who builts quality scale models in no time😢
1 December 2018, 21:10

Hm, what fictional Paint scheme should i do? Prototype orange overall, camo khaki and dark green over light green gray (like the early Betties), mottles over green gray (Like the Sally, Peggy or Helen) or Navy Dark green over Light green Gray or NMF, or complete NMF with coloured rudders etc...
1 December 2018, 21:35

I would go with Navy Dark Green over Light Green Gray. Or maybe the NMF with colored rudders. For some reason i think a camo is unusual for high altitude strategic bombers.
Great progress so far though!
1 December 2018, 22:24

Hi Rick, thanky you for the hint. Though it is completely fictional i guess you are right with the camo.
1 December 2018, 22:45

All of the options look interesting, but the "prototype orange overall"...that would be quite good!
2 December 2018, 11:29

Hey Guys, thank you.. we have a winner! It is tataah
IJN Dark Blue-green. Thank you all for your suggestiones
3 December 2018, 18:45

Of course it is f*cking green it is a f+cking japanese Navy plane of WWII😉🙂
3 December 2018, 19:38

Q: I am curious. Ho.. How did you mask the round viewports on the sides? Liquid mask?
I can't imagine that particular clear part to be easy to mask if already been glued onto the model.
3 December 2018, 19:44

Hi Treehugger, yes with Maskol. Due to the snap kit engineering nearly all parts are glued from the inside and you have to fit and fix them before painting.
3 December 2018, 20:13

Aah, I guess I would add some masking effect on the parts, then glue them on, then paint. 🙂 Never occurred to me to do it this way until now.
3 December 2018, 21:01

Hi mate, thank you 👍 It is the reallly good VAllejo IJN Dark green 71.310 with their Thinner mixed up 2:1.
3 December 2018, 21:32

Thank you very much Lee👍 Legs added and i guess ypu have to put 100g in the nose that it won't get a tailsitter
4 December 2018, 16:26

STarted to give the plane its identity😉 I don't know why but japanese decals especially fujimi and aoshimas are somewhat thick an softener-resistent.
8 December 2018, 20:32

Impressive plane. Anigrand also kitted it (in resin); the cockpit area looks different from Fujimi's. To my eyes IJN green always looks good; keep up the great work!
9 December 2018, 20:40

Thank you all very much Ladies and Gentlemen! Really glad that you all like this project.
STarted with the weathering and accentuation of single panels with thinned Blue-green.
10 December 2018, 20:07

THank you Bryn, much appreciated 👍 Some weathering still to do like Smokestains etc. but the beast is almost ready for testflight now😉
10 December 2018, 22:10

That green is awesome, makes me want to build a japanese WW2 plane too! Great job 👍
11 December 2018, 05:38

That is always a good idea Alex. in natural light this green is in my opinion even more impressive.
But you have to build a Navy plane and the color is called IJN Navy Dark green and the Vallejo color is really good.
But i have to say it is very difficult to make shots of such a big bird with these sleak proportions.
BTW it is finished🙂
11 December 2018, 15:01

It looks very nice in the natural sunlight I think. I hope you can make some photos from a human perspective, to get to see the lower part of the bomber.
11 December 2018, 15:10

It looks great Daniel, well done! It will be an amazing addition to the collection.
11 December 2018, 16:09

Wow, what a stunning model! You did a fantastic job on this build, Daniel!
11 December 2018, 16:54

Wie viel Blei in der Nase? Oder musstest du sie hinten untertützen?
12 December 2018, 14:00

looking great Daniel! Did you paint the yellow wingbands or are these decals?
12 December 2018, 17:14

When do we get to the part of the build where Daniel bakes giant cookies? That's always my favourite part.
12 December 2018, 23:08

@Bobin No and the Fujimi kit does not really show the Fugaku project as it was planned to built. The Anigrand offer scalemates.com/kits/167243-a..a-4010-nakajima-g10n1-fugaku is the choice for all who want to build the version that was really planned to be built.
It is smaller with less engine Power and bob load.
As did Fujimi I gave my project here the wrong name because it should be called Nakajima "Project Z America Bomber" cause it is the last and biggest draft with 6x HA54 5000HP engines, the size of the B-36 Peacemaker and a bomb load of 20t.
17 December 2018, 09:18

@Paul these are the Decals of the kit. Normally i Paint them, especially with japanese kit decals. They are often thick and doesn't work well.
17 December 2018, 09:20

THank you very much again for your very kind words Ladies and Gentlemen!
Just had to reload some of the pics. Glad you still like the result 🙂
Much appreciated Martin, thank you 👍
20 January 2019, 23:04

I do love it when an old build resurfaces. What a monster!! Great result too
19 July 2023, 10:50

Ohh yes it is a monster! thank you mates, still very much appreciated👍
19 July 2023, 14:07
Album info
Japanese Giant Bomber Project.
This thing would have been so big.
Sanded off all snap kit pins and marks for better fit.
Will try to let it look not like a toy in the end🙂
