24 June 1944: F/L Hornell and crew sink U-1225. Aircraft heavily damaged by accurate flak on run in, but Hornell pressed on to a perfect attack with 4x D/Cs before a successful ditching. He was awarded the Victoria Cross posthumously for this action.
