Album info

The General Dynamics F-16 Fighting Falcon is more commonly referred to as the Viper by those who fly it. Now built by Lockheed Martin, the F-16 is the most numerous fixed-wing aircraft in service throughout the world.

This model represents the Block 50 F-16CJ flown by Lt. Col. Michael "Dog" Geczy on May 4, 1999 during Operation Allied Force. On that day, as PUMA 11 flight lead, he shot down a Yugoslav MiG-29 Fulcrum with an AIM-120 AMRAAM missile. Flying out of Aviano AB in Italy with the 78th Expeditionary Fighter Squadron, the "Bushmasters," this jet was actually borrowed from the 77th Fighter Squadron, the "Gamblers," one of their sister squadrons of the 20th Fighter Wing home-based at Shaw Air Force Base.

The model is the 1/48 scale Tamiya F-16CJ kit build mostly straight from the box with the addition of Meng AIM-120 missiles and AN/ALQ-131 ECM pod. Decals came from the excellent Bullseye Model Aviation 48-028 Killer Vipers sheet. The Modern Viper Guide from Reid Air Publications was invaluable as a reference throughout this project.
