Welcome mate. I have unpacked, degreased and primed the parts and I stumbled upon first dilemma: was the interior finished with aluminium or green primer? Need to do some research before moving on.

If you have some period photos of the plane you want to model it's the same color as the "cutouts" you can see under the rear glazing. The area by the canopy was usually chipped so the chipping would stand out if the interior was green on period photos. It is easy to tell if you have a close up of the area by the pilot head rest. Most photos of french hawks hint more towards the green, I have seen only one when you could tell that the interior is alluminium. The other problem is that early curtiss manufactured planes interior was painted not with interior green but their own company color "tinted green" also known as "curtiss green" which is more of a darkened yellow zinc chromate. Hope that helps a bit as I am currently researching the P-36 as this is my next project after i tackle my P-40 (found out about the interior color later so its interior green there) and Rwd-5. Greetings. Patryk

Dzięki Patryk. There's only one known pic of the Hawk I'm interested in (see project cover pic) and the interior colour is not visible as the glass is shining 🙂 Nevertheless I assumed it's more probable it's green and great to see your research confirms it. I tried some mixing and finally took the Polish AFV Green by Hataka as the equivalent that suits me best 🙂

I will follow this project closely as the az model kit is also the kit of choice for me. Good luck!

Oliver, that's purely because of the tiny checkerboard you can spot on its tail 😛

But on the serious side: there are couple of cool French pre-war planes I wanna build, e.g:
- lovely little MS225,
- tramways: Amiot 143, Blochs MB 200 & 210, Potez 540,
- cool Breguet 693.
except the ones used by Polish air Force in exile, of course 🙂

MS 230 is out of scope and the little Caudron falls under the PolAF in exile topic 🙂
