Roland SachsenhoferThis is not the Airfix model - but it should be seen in connection with it: as inspiration to get this somewhat smaller and extremely smart model by Moebius! The kit itself is simple and well made, the detail shapes tend to be a bit washed out- but the shapes that match the film model are impressive. Even in 1:160 scale, the Space Clipper is not that small. The interior made of plasticised cardboard is innovative - in the meantime I can say: it works, also as a solution for the cockpit.

Roland SachsenhoferHere we continue with a few pictures of the Orion III prepared for surface colour - and in giant steps towards the end. I decided on a multi-textured surface with individual areas, masked off here, in a mild yellow tone as well as grey tones. Tomorrow the white will be applied in the form of Gunze H316, I'm looking forward to it!

Roland SachsenhoferDo you know what impressed me most about this project? The final view of our blue planet, gorgeous, precious beautiful - and impressively captured by the photographers from weightlessness! I will come back to this later, but to start with: "Space Clipper Orion III" is finished! The construction itself was unspectacular, whereby the parts proved to be reasonably accurate, but their contours were quite soft. The bought decals crumbled already during the first attempts and turned out to be completely useless; actually a luck, because this is how I like the Orion III best.
I took the liberty of adding the motif of the space clipper oscillating between the earth's surface and the space station to suitable surroundings with a little image processing. Maybe you feel the same way, that your heart swells! Not because of the beauty of the model, but because of the breathtaking beauty of our planet. An incredible sight - and a call to celebrate life in joy and mindfulness. In this spirit, I wish you all a Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays and a Happy New Year!
