As the Royal Air Force retired the iconic Hawker-Siddley Nimrod before I could photograph the type properly I have decided this kit deserves my full attention.
A funny story occurred at Waddington Airshow once, me and my Dad were talking to a crew member on the Alpha Disposal Static display and sat behind him was a Nimrod R.1 and Sentry AEW.1 both were WFU and were not airworthy.
He told us if we could get transport organised, they would happily give us both aircraft for a £1 coin!
Ofcourse this wasn't in the slightest bit realistic as it would have cost tens of thousands of pounds but you can imagine at the time what my childhood mind was thinking whilst being sent I to overdrive!
Also on my 21st birthday when the Nimrod was retired, my Late Nan bought me the seat out of Nimrod R.1 XV249.
That same day my mate at the time who also had the same seat from another R.1 took me to East Midlands Aeropark as he was a member and he could and indeed did get me onboard their newly displayed Nimrod R.1 XW664 which is the oldest R.1 being the first to be delivered to service at Waddo.
