This vehicle was built by austrian Saurer company for the austrian army. During the absorbing of the austrian armed forces into the Wehrmacht these vehicles were also integrated into the Wehrmacht as Sd.Kfz. 254 gepanzertes Beobachtungsfahrzeug. Due to its ability to travel faster on roads with its wheels and on tracks with lifted wheels in difficult cross country it was well recognized by its users.
