A short time-lapse of the interior: the C-54 from Revell builds very well and is a paragon of fitting accuracy. However, I find some of the many details too soft and washed out. But that's not a problem, because you won't see anything behind the cockpit cabin wall 🙂
The etched parts are from the "Gold Edition" of this issue.

Great project! I was tempted once or twice when I saw this kit at a very good price in the Revell online shop as well as at my local dealer. I did resist though 😄

Cockpit detail looks great, Roland. Any detail in the cabin?
C'mon Bernd, stop resisting!

Hello Bernd and Yigal! Yes, I had a similar experience - Just couldn't resist the extremely favourable price - that with all the etched parts! - at the local dealer recently. And: I have to say, it builds quite well for the time being!

Here, too, it has gone a little further: fuselage and wings -not in the picture- were filled and sanded. Soon all the large sub-components should be ready for assembly!

Fuselage and wings were sanded, all clear parts were masked - almost everything was ready for the first coat of paint!

A snapshot of the masking work for the different metallic tones on the flanks and wings of the C-54. After completing this step, I want to apply the white to the fuselage upper surface.

The last step before the real highlight of this build: working with large-scale, complex decals! After an appropriate layer of "gloss clear" nothing stands in the way of the adventure so far....

The decals are all applied, without much difficulty I can note. Advance planning and a certain caution and sensitivity - that's all it really takes; Revell has done a great job here.
The surfaces of the C-54 are now sealed and the gloss level is already finished, now I take care of the landing gear, engines and propellers.

So, the construction of the C-54 is entering its final phase - but it's dragging on a bit, let me tell you! Two things are to blame for this: on the one hand, the Revell kit comes with a lot of details and on top of that, there are different variants, such as the tyres, which increases the effort. This is all very positive, but there is the catch that many of these details are very washed out and have to be reworked. Especially with the elaborate undercarriage, this unnecessary circumstance is not so funny.
On the other hand: this project is based on the "Platinum Edition" - and that meant many many scratched parts. Exclusively wonderful - but also time-consuming. To illustrate this: for the four propellers the use of a total of sixty individual tiny decals is intended.

Looking great. I really like the detailed engines and the landing gear. 👍

The "finishing touches" took some time, but now she is ready: I may present you a few pictures of the finally finished Thunderbird C-54! The build itself is only slightly marred by the discrepancies in mould quality and the building instructions described in the previous text, but is otherwise pure joy.
Since the C-54 in the colour scheme of the Thunderbirds turned out to be quite an attractive photo motif, I'm afraid I have to flood you with one more picture. I hope you like them anyway!
Thank you for all your helpful comments and interest!

Lovely vintage livery and fabulous build. I admire the way you weather the metallic surfaces 👍

Very beautiful model! Und die Details an den Motoren und Fahrwerken sind wieder preisverdächtig.

Thank you all for this wonderful and motivating feedback!
The smoke of the engine starting is partly due to the family hairdryer and partly to a Photoshop gimmick. This can be imitated very well with the tools "Airbrush" and "Wipe finger". If the scenery is suitable and the props are rotatable, I like to try something like this - for example here in pictures 1 to 3 on the model of a B-25 Mitchell. Finished B-26G Mitchell | Album by Roland (1:48)
I'm glad you like it!
