Album info
This build started in 2018.
We visited RAF Marham in August which was during the RAF's transition period from the Panavia Tornado GR.4 to the Lockheed Martin F-35B Lightning II.
After seeing my final ever Airborne Tonka and first ever RAF F-35B it inspired me to build a variant of F-35.
I got as far as painting but due to the very complex 2 tone grey scheme I shelved the model for nearly 6 months.
After restarting I had the aircraft itself finished within 2 weeks.
I modified 2 F-16 outer pylons into F-35 pylons and used a set of AIM-9X's from a previously built Tamiya F-16CJ.
She's sat in the display cabinet for up to a year now with empty bomb bays and a black afterburner until last night when I painted the inner after burner white.
I read up a few days ago that the USAF F-35A has just been certified to carry the B61-12 Nuclear bomb.
This got me thinking.
Maybe mine could carry one?
After looking through my online stash it turns out I have 2 B61's in the Italeri NATO Arms set so it's all go now!
