In account of the more then challenging Blackburn Roc-project I need a therapy on the subject of turret-fighters. I guess a good cure could be...... a B.P. Defiant in 1:48 from Airfix!
Here you see first pictures of the assembled cockpit; the "alu" tank in the front end will not be seen with closed fuselage halfs, hence it was dry-brushed with a Tamiya- metallic color.

Looking good so far Roland. I was in two minds whether to build the Airfix Defiant Mk.I or the Airfix Spitfire Mk.I but I chose the Spitfire (maybe I'll go for the Defiant next time 🙂 ). I'll be following your build with great interest.

Looking great so far Roland. I hope the Airfix kit is as therapeutic as hoped for 😄

Mats, Stephen, Alec, thank you- and feel very welcome!
It will be a pleasure to enjoy the Spitfire-build; I will have a seat for sure!
Everything evolves fine with this build so far- not really surprising with such a fine engineered kit!

Graet cockpit Roland. Always nice when there is no need for resins aftermarket pits 👍

Some new pictures: over a base of gloss black I sprayed Alclad White Aluminum on all those areas, where a decent chipping of paint is planed. The little violet spots just visible on the metallic color are spots of masking lacquer.
The step will be applying the preshading and spraying on the color of the Defiants underside.

It's coming along well Roland 👍. Can you please explain the black-sprayed areas?

Thank you Alec! The black areas serve as a primer for the "Alclad" metal color. These superb metallic paint must not be sprayed on the bare plastic, it would simply peel off. Additionally the glossiness of the black makes the metallic more bright.

I get it - only some areas were treated with the black undercoat and silver (not the entire airframe). Thanks for clarification Roland 👍

The Defiant has been finally painted with Gunzes choice for "Dark Green" and "Dark Earth", everything shining under a coat of Gunze clear gloss.
I masked the color edges on he upper-side in a rather rough way and detail-sprayed the edges with my free hand held airbrush afterwards.
I hope to get the decals on during the next days!

The Defiants surfaces have been finished so far.....
The turret was with exception of Resin-guns build out of the box. The macros show how much dust has settled on the parts! 🙂

Finished at last! Although the Airfix kit is a little bit cumbersome in some areas-I think of the wheel struts and, especially, the wheel bays fairing- it was a very pleasant build! With help from Eduard here and there its can result in a pretty detailed model.
I am happy to have Britain´s "turret fighter" standing alongside it´s FAA counterpart, the Blackburn Roc!

That is very kind, Sören, thank you.
I am quite sure you will have a lot of modeling fun with this one!
