The Vickers Valiant project will run alongside the B-47. It´s a nice comparison for me, as both planes share nearly the same dimension, purpose and the decade of their deployment.
The Valiants cockpit section is refined with Eduards interior set- nothing except the seat harnesses will be seen on the finished model. Therefore painting and detailing was done restrained.
It´s odd, but I have to say, Hasegawas old kit show better fit of parts than the recent Airfix kit dos.

looks good so far, will anything be seen from the operator consoles when finished?

Ekki and Bart, thank you for your interest!
Literally nothing will be seen after attaching the final clear part you can see in picture number 5.....
To be honest, I have retrieved the etched part representing the operators panels for the spare-box after making the pictures 🙂
If the entrance hatch would be posed open, you could see directly in the operators compartment, therefore Airfix effort to show that area makes sense.

Watchin'😎
That's a very nasty comparison that makes the Valiant look like a stone-age relict. How about the Badger? Compares well in size.

Wow, how many model are you building simultaneously? I must say the quality AND quantity of your models is quite remarkable..

Thank you guys!
Burkhard, that is quite a good ideas 🙂 but the next heavies to follow will be a Vulcan- already on the way to the workbench- and Airfix´new Victor....
Alexander, actually I am tending to have three or four kits on the bench- not just started, but with the intention to get them done in a foreseeable time. Blackburns Roc is the third project currently- I have to finish it! 🙂

Wing and fuselage have now been joined -and most of the major parts have been attached.
Everything is sanded, and-in certain cases- filled except the joining of the fin and elevators. That´s a very problematic spot because the elevator is too much to thick for the gap in the fin.

Hi Roland, How many of these are you doing? I see you've got a tanker version planned too is that right? I have 3 planned. One White one out of box as a blue steel carrier. One as a Aussie based silver? Atomic bomb test aircraft (with RAAF markings!) And the third as a B.2 Gloss Black Pathfinder conversion.

Hello mates, feel welcome!
Glenn, I am a great friend of building two or three versions of one model during the same building session, but this time I am doing just one- XD857 from the kits decal sheet.
I have considered to get for a silver one and -I would say: of course- an experimental gloss black pathfinder. No tanker conversion.... what made you think that? 🙂
I congratulate to your valiant effort to get three of these giants in the showcase. I WILL take a seat for that!

I found this about the RAAF Vickers Valiant in regards to the markings.
B.1 03/11/1954 First flight, delivered to RAF 08/02/1955
Previously visited Australia in 1955 as part of Operation Too Right
17/10/1961 Received by RAAF at Base Squadron Edinburgh Field,
17/10/1961 To A.V Roe and Co and operated by Base Squadron Edinburgh Field,
27/05/1963 Returned to the UK ex Edinburgh Field.
Highlight for Album: Valiant WP206
WP206 wore RAAF kangaroo roundels for a while, we don't know if they were officially approved!

I've got the Model Alliance? (I think?) decal sheet for the Valiant with RAAF rats on the fuselage and the Victor with "SAC" stars n stripes decals! I must add it to scalemates! It's not clear on the color scheme if it's silver or white? It looks a bit too dark for white anti-flash scheme but it does not tell you if it's silver or not? Confusing me as to what the correct color is. I can only find the odd b&w photo so hard to tell.
Here's a shot of the 1/144 MicroMir kit i found

Here's a link to a build article and it has a page from Model Aircraft Monthly June 2003 attached showing WP209 in RAAF markings! It's silver! That clears that up! The markings under the wing (the diamond and triangle) are RED not Black.

Hi Glenn and Wilky, I have bought the "airdecal Camouflaged and Silver Valiants" sheet with the original plan to build one of the early silver birds. Here are the Valiants ypu can get out of that sheet- some pretty colorful Valiants!

Some new pictures of the Valiant having been giving a rather crude preshading- I am eager to see how many bottles of white it will take to get that shading down to a sensible grade 🙂
The Valiants frame like landing gear construction has got cable harnesses made from thin copper wire.

![](/profiles/img/10148-258-s.jpg)
I have sprayed over the original preshading with gray color to lessen the contrast of the black under the following white.
You can see the first steps of getting the Valiant glossy white. Again I am happy with the Gunze Acrylics, because the preshading is properly covered without problems- although it´s shining through; Of course, some more spraying sessions will follow, to get the intended white surface.

![](/profiles/img/10148-258-s.jpg)
All is white now...... but I have to wait for a new batch of Gunzes glossy White- I have run out of it before the surfaces got the opaqueness I desire. In the meantime I will go for the minor parts- and for the Blackburn Roc, resting all too long on the bench 🙂

This looks really nice Roland. I'll be following this. Good inspiration for mine.

Thank you both- that´s very motivating!
I am now reworking the white surfaces here and there. And...... the jet-intakes have to be detailed a little bit further. No big deal, but important for a more correct look of the model.

Some Valiant-news.... I am content with the condition of the white surfaces at last- I have done quite some sessions of spraying an, all too often necessary, re-sanding. But I think that´s normal for a white surface.
Additionally I have added the tiny horizontal struts between the two air intake stacks, which is missing on Airfix kit.
Gloss coat has been prepared, so now on to some "decaling"!

Looking good so far. Didn't realize how similar in size they were to the B-47.

![](/profiles/img/10148-258-s.jpg)
Thank you all guys! Yesterday I did complete the applying of the decals- Not an affair to do on one day considering the opulent decal sheet! 🙂
Tomorrow I will show you new pictures of the Valiant, which is awaiting some very restraint "wear and tear"
26 August 2017, 12:43
![](/profiles/img/10148-258-s.jpg)
The new pics show the finished surface of the Valiant- finished relating the applying the decals of course 🙂 The Airfix decal sheet, printed by Cartograph which is a very welcomed circumstance, is both in quality and quantity high end!

![](/profiles/img/10148-258-s.jpg)
Oh yes, don´t they?
The wheel struts have got their quantum of retouching with pastels; maybe I will get the Valiant in her legs tomorrow 🙂

![](/profiles/img/10148-258-s.jpg)
I got the Vickers Valiant finished 🙂 That was quite a uncomplicated and strait build. Fit proved to be very convincing and with little enhancements here and there it can be built into a fine representation of this iconic "First of the V-bombers"!
Thank you all for your very appreciated comments and encouragements! It gave me an extra boost to masters this 72-scale giant! 🙂

Beautiful! There really is something to these big bombers in white with roundels in pastel. As always, love how clean your build and paintjob is.

Thank you both for your comments! Indeed, I also like them in this finish!

Wow, those roundels are heavily faded! Nice one, Roland! Wie am Fließband!!

![](/profiles/img/10148-258-s.jpg)
Thank you very much Alexander!
The roundels are not faded but brightened up to minimize the effect off the atomic blasts heat.

Nice finish Roland, funny thing is roundels are faded, but not the stencils and dogs😉

![](/profiles/img/user-s.jpg)
very nice model... checked first for the direction of the pitot's on top, because on most aircraft these point the other direction, otherwise it would have been a useless remark (still is 😉 by the way)

![](/profiles/img/10148-258-s.jpg)
Your comments are very kind, motivating and bracing!
Lukasz, indeed, that´s pretty inconsequent- but in case of nuclear apocalypse, who would have really cared about a bombers fate?
Thank you for all your interest!

Wow, thank you mates for these comments! Xldmstr, simple copper wire, twisted and enlaced for some areas, was used. There are plenty of pictures available to illustrate the twisted nature of this wiring.
