Academy T-72 RC Conversion

Academy 1:48 T-72 RC Conversion, this kit came with a remote controller and I am converting it to Radio Control so I don't have to have a wire hanging out the back of it 🙂

Anyhow, I feel slightly embarrassed posting this up given the high standard of models on this forum but I figure it is worth my while to catalogue my errors 🙂

It came out darker than I hoped for but there are a few first for me with this model, the use of Future/Klear floor cleaner varnish, having a go at a sludge wash and a pin wash and also using a decal softener (Revell). It's also a little untidier than I had for too I feel, I reckon I have maybe overworked it as it was looking ok at one point but I wanted to try all these different techniques and had to do a few things several times to fix certain mistakes etc.

I am tempted to start again and prime the lot but in grey this time but I reckon I will start on another model to try and tidy up on my technique etc.
as I await my first ever dual action airbrush and compressor. This kit was done with spray cans and a Badger "spray gun" to apply the Future/Klear, primed in matt black with a silver dusting and then an enamel matt dark green, then sludged washed in a black/brown, then glossed and pin washed with some silver and brown dry brushed for scrapes and dirt effects with a couple of coats of matt varnish for afters and much mucking about inbetween.
Much learned though.

Anyhow, on the plus side, it is the best I have ever done decals and it is RC 😄

Very neat! I picked up a couple of 1/48 R/C tanks while in Japan (they were on "clearance"!) and while I don't have the knowledge or experience to convert them to wireless I though that they would still be pretty cool!

I have 5 of these Academy 1:48 tanks, they are ok kits, surface detail is good and a little scratch building & weathering they could come out good. The gear boxes for the motors need stripping and greasing to get the grease inside all the holes, I also added to micro washers on the angle gears just to separate it from the from the frame, made a big big difference to the power, delivery, traction etc.

Which two did you get ?

I got the Arii Marder ( in my stash now ) but the Arii M4 Sherman and Zhengdefu M1A1 tanks I have to add to the data base.
