Thank you Björn and Thomas, much appreciated... But i have to correct you Thomas..... 2 Flying boats.. Got my hands on the H8K1 Offering from Hasegawa for a very good price so i decided to expand the Dio for another Flying boat 😄
Inspiration was a pic with a H8K1 in the water and another one already under maintenance ashore..

Thank you very much folks... @ Joerg yes indeed...alltogether around 280pcs. Ok in the end you will see about 30% but I know they are there 😄
@Guy glad to read that from you!, @Miro Yes a year goes by so fast ...thank you for the patience.

Well that's a hell of a job ! Although I tend to use or to scratch parts that you won't see when the model is finished , what you did it's amazing. Keep up!

That is a LOT of mask 😄. However, let us remember how this would go in the age before pre-cuts masks...😉. May I ask how you attached the canopy to the fuselage?

Hi Guys,
@Spanjaard, yes nearly 140 single patches to fo fix... But except of the ones for the fusealge windows, they are included in the kit for the 1st release edition. It makes things definetely much easier with this flying greenhouses from Japan, France etc...
I wish i had those for the Renzan.
@Lukasz Thank you very much and welcome 👍
@Alec Yes once upon a time when frames were mainly brushpainted 🙂
The Canopy fits that perfect i just needed 4 spots of Micro Lristal Klear (white glue) to fix it....

Hi there, the mask from the kit weren't mainly of the correct fit, so i had to cut new ones of my own and now i am stisfied with the result.
It cost many time but now i am in the mantal state again to continue the detailwork 🙂 For this Emily will be the beached one i started with the "legs"
. Tonight i will practice some soldering of etched parts, because toglue the Maintenance platforms would be insane to do.
Best regards Daniel

Thank you Teehugger.. Yes ist is a big Lady when finished ca. 40x50cm. THe kit itself has 283 pcs. and with the PE and Resinparts..nearly 500 🙂
Meanwhile the other project is drying , i gave the Rufe its first colour coat... and i have to say after over 1 one year the masks were fitted. It is ok.
Not too much to rework on it

That's real moddeling! great job! Only I think the cocpit fuselage under the canopy should be painted black. And the Instrument panels more Mitsubishi interior green than aotake.
But in endeffect, I like the both excellent planes. Looking forward to the finishing.

Hey Miro, glad that you like it.. you are right... The Aotake is just the first coat.. It will become an Tyreblack finish. But the PAnels were in early A6M2 Aotake overall, especially the units aboard ships. Unluckily the filter of the CAmera makes the plane look white. But in reality its very lightendes Blueish grey.
And the plane is not ready at all. There is still a lot of washing and shading and lining to do..
Thanks Cuajete.. Yes it is the Hasegawa, simple but quite correct and overall good details.

Well, thats really an ambitious project my oh my. 🙁
110*68cm is the Base. I think i will make two halves for better Transportation. The Emily's Wings can be separated easily thanks to hasegawas well thought engineering one do not have to glue them.
Their fit is excellent. Room at home is not the problem.

Yap, I think the broken canopy serie (remember the Kobayashi Lightning? - Still not heard a thing from Airfix btw.) was a sign to get back to the voluptuous Lady(s). - and they really are 🙂
So i started fixing the wings and preparing the maintenance platforms so that sh can get her first bit of colour soon.

Hi David yes, i used the standard engines. In my Opinion the kits engines are good enough and the eduard offering is not that much better. I got them in my stash and will probably use it for a later project. The Guns and armament is a must have but the engines does not make the big difference in the end. Too many small parts to glue either. Ah i had them in the list of used items now i understand. Just removed it😉

@DAvid, yes the cables are in the exterior set and thats enough. The Frame for the engine mounted to the Firewall can easily be made yourself if one like.
@Cuajete Yes they are absolutely crisp and well shaped by HAsegawa. If i would plan to show the engine under maintenance then the eduard parts could be useful in addition.

May i introduce the most powerful and potential Aerial Torpedo off WWII.

If it had been that good in directional stability ist would have probably been the most potential

May be a combination of sanding down, and some Extra Thin and then manipulate it with some metal to look like a welding seam? But that will be not easy in the smale scale.

Hi Frank, just sanded it half way down and it a base coat of Gunze Dissolved Putty.. Then i sprayed a thin coat of Mr. Metal color Aluminium. Tomorrow I will polish the undersurface and seal it with Mr. Metal primer. If that looks ok and a bit Dull the wings and Engineparts both undersides will get the same treatment but instead of the Dissolved Putty, Black will be the base coat.

Image 79 show a very good pose for this and probably any aircraft I think. 🙂 Including a 1:144 scale X-Wing, which I have on a tiny stand in front of me, in a similar pose.

Welcome Ben 👍
@Rick Thank you but still some work to even the aluminium look and weathering etc. to do.
The squares under the belly need some minor polishing too before all can be sealed with a semi dull coat.

I like the idea of dirtying up the surface creating a subtle irregularity in the shading, I must try this myself sometime. 🙂 I had previously dismissed pre-shading airbrushing, but I think if being subtle enough, and being limited to creating an irregular shading, then I think it could look great if being careful not flooding the surface with the last layers of paint (which I guess would fully cover the surface effect, making it not visible).

very nice preshading Daniel. it looks just perfect
@Treehugger, it can work really well, but you need to be as careful as i am sure Daniel will be😉 you can try with some old model to get the hold of it.

Coming along nice there. The pre-shading is going to pay off for sure. Those Japanese planes always show lots of wear since they operated in such tough environments.

@Nathan Yes they were often very bleaches and dull, because of salty water, high humidity in the air and at leat heat and sun...

I added mor coats of brownish green and blueish green very thin coats .
Last to simulate the faded Top coat and the from underneath through shining aotake coat.
@Moritz it is rather a Grey basing in my case. I somewaht do not like it to totally blacken my projects except of overall NMF.😢
Hope you can see it in the last 8 pictures.

Thank you Roberto! And thats why i like this technique and how HAsegawa has engineered the wings in this kit. You can easily work step by step and get closer to the outcome you like.
It is very controllable... Backboard-wing is nearly finished.. Only the fabric parts will be reworked and of course the yellow wing markings will follow.

@Dave Thank you very much for your encouraging words and yes i will share but at the moment iam wrestling with the kit decals. Quite a lot and not to easy to bring on.. Next time i will airbrush the markings. The packet contains the Hasegawa etching part set for the exterior details that Eduard did not mention in their sets.
@Rick, Thank you very much mate.. well i do not think this will be good enough for a competition winner, i also do not plan to take part in one 😉 But i'll try my best and it makes me happy to write such nice words 👍 And pe Parts is right yes these:

Your composition on the dio works but it would be even better in my eyes if you place the Emily not right angled to the edges of your base. Maybe you can give it a try.

Yap, soft like rubber, a real treat to clean and you have to paint them very carefully and even when you seal them touching after paiting is risky, to peel of the paint again. But they are the only game in town, despite of Hasegawas Figures coming with the Trucks in 72

It looks okay to me and, even though this is just advice I read somewhere else, I heard that painting the eyes is usually a bad idea. Basically, your eyes will fill in the blank if they're not there... but you can't unsee giant googley eyes and it'll make them look odd.

Thank you Greg 👍 That was also my intention. I saw several tries of others which did not convinced me and I have never painted the eyes before. With natural light outside they also look ok to me now.

Figures look good. It`s a wise decision not to paint eyes; very often they look oversized and the guy looks scared and scary spoiling an otherwise good build.

I always think of it this way. If you were standing at a distance from someone who appeared to be 1:72 in size, would you see their eyes? I think your figures look just fine.

First thank you all very much for your hints and answers 👍
@Rick, the Resin figures are much too expensive and not much better. And you have to clean and sand them widely, and that is not the best for my health😉
@SPanjaard never did that before and Resin is not my favorite stuff to work with😉
@Neuling thanks and yes they all look out of proportion .
@Nathan good Point 👍
@Stefan cool book thank you 👍 Just 6 weeks left to WD btw. Time is running out😉

Mechanic added to the Maintenance Platform.. Though the size ( of 165cm in real) seems plausible to me, it looks like a mismatch somehow. It would have been difficult to work in this narrow gap

Hi Erik, yap 3D is 3D..🙂
Complete Scratching one, i am too lazy and the Coastal kits stuff is great but does not match in size and
subject, and is only a backplate and too expensive for a compromise.
But i hope to convert this GPM thing into a japanese looks alike hangar.. The structure is nearly the same.
Only Doors and windows are slightly different, but that is free for interpreatation 🙂
Cheers

I painted also the structural parts also with white primer from a rattle can, it needs more than one coat as the carton sucks . The base I airbrushed with different shades of light grey and some smears of dark grey and a fine black marker for the joints.

Car Paint? is it not too aggressive?. Ok priming is without alternative with this material and i guess one have to be careful with the thinning. It should not get to thin and wet.
Found some material in my stash of an older architecturial project.
Maybe it is useful to fill the emptiness in the Hangar a bit

I recall spraying it in couple of thin, almost transparent layers, so the paper hasn't sucked so much of it. Definitely a quick-dry paint was helpful here.

Hi Cuajete, Yes those are the pre-war schemes and one second line Aircraft of the Hamamatsu Flying school.
Though the early type had been in Service during the whole conflict.
But there are a lot of aftermarket decals for front service machines after 1941.
I am also abit disappointed and confused why they did a lot of work with matrix for making the canopy masks by the modelers oneselfs, instead cutting it by themselves.
Sword managed to do this with a much lower Budget with their new Betty.

Album info
This will become a bigger Diorama with maintenance (emily) ans a beaching scene (Rufe). Both are HAsegawa kits with a lot of etched Parts for the Emily.
I have to say i never had such difficulties to join two Fuselage Halves than with the new Hasegawa Emily, though it is well engineered by Hasegawa, the weakpoint is that you have to cement with pressure downwards (joining the spares for the Wing assembly inside the fuselage correctly) and from the side.
Progress so far see thepictures
