THX Phil, this TA-7 makes a lot of fun to build. Its nicely detailed but has room for improvements, how you can see! 🙂
What next model can we expect from your bench?

I think it will be a A 10 Thunderbolt from Italeri with the aires cockpit, wheelbays and the electronic bay, the sheme I just don't now yet how it gone look? I'm now busy with the decals on the F 4, looking good so far, but I'm looking forward at the A 10, greetings Phil

Hello guy´s! I did some work on my corsair. This Hobbyboss-kit is a bit confusing. Some parts of the cockpit needed heavy correction grinding but the avionicbay-hatches literally sucked themselfes into the right position! Anyway its a lot of fun to build this SLUFF and i´m heading to finish it, soon. Only some additions and i´m ready for the paintjob.

Especially an F-4 has a hell of many decals! So you need a hell of quiet hands to apply them properly! On some close-up pix of the greek A-7´s there are similar much stencils to see. Fortunately they are too small even in 1:48. It would take a year or so to apply them all! So i´m happy to have the exquisite icarusdecals handy😢

Hi Guido, thx for the comment! Today i´ll try to make some better pix of the bird and work on. I bet, i dont need to sand the wings, the fit of them is pretty perfect. Only the angle of the horizontal stabilizers make´s me a headache. I have to work very patiently on them.

Hello - I'm working for nearly 100% with Vallejos (MAir, MColor and PanzerAces too) - and I've stopped experimenting with water and other thinners after some extreme failures. It's possible to spray all the colors with an airbrush under the condition mixing them with thinner from V.
For the varnish I take the new one with a new mixture - it works very well.
(You get it in bottles which content 200ml for a really good price - that includes some primers too).
By the way the yellow works well too if the first layer is white.
Hope I could helped a little bit (V. are a never ending story 🙂🙂

For Valejo varnish [mat, satin and gloss] I'm using a simply alcohol [vodka]. It's cheaper than thinner for Valejo.

Some lil updates are archieved, this weekend. In fact i had to work in the office, but that didnt stoped me from modelling. I added a small amount of putty between wings and fuselage. Preshading isnt finished yet. Before using the airbrush for preshading, i washed the whole model with isopropyl-alcohol. I hope that helps to let the paint stick to the surface. I´m happy with the progress, so far🙂!

Hi Bill! The greek airforce had some different versions. There are heavy differences between particular aircraft. Some have a refulingprobe, some not. Some have the typical pitotubes, some not... Its not easy to say if its "C" or "H" but this is the first time i hear about the "H" in greek service.
I decided my self for the aircraft with the endnumber "747"... 🙂

It looks to me like your decal sheet says "TA-7H/C". I just looked in Wikipedia and it says that Greece operates both TA-7H and TA-7C. It would be interesting to find out if there are any external differences, or whether the difference is primarily avionics set. I'm also wondering whether the H models were built new for Greece, and the C models were transferred from the USN when Greece asked for more. That's a possibility.

The photos showes incredible differences, but not in the panellines. I told about the refulingprobe and pitotubes, and there are some other antennaes as the "C" has normally. Greek "C"´s can not operate from aircraftcarriers cause the cat can not arrest anymore in the frontgear.

The YA-7F was an interesting idea, basically a supersonic strikefighter version of the SLUF. The fuselage was stretched several feet, and some of the aerodynamic surfaces changed. Ended up looking a lot like an F-8 Crusader, which is of course what the A-7 was derived from to begin with!!

Generally i dont cut in decals, only to avoid bubbles. The "Hobbyboss" panelines are not very deep, so the decals are lying nicely in them, now! I have experimented with different softeners and the Revellstuff works best with the "Icarusdecals"! I hope a dark wash will expose the panels enough!

I made a major failure whilst decaling. I relyed myself on the referance from the Icarus decalsheet. But these referances are totally different from those, i collected! Crosschecked with my photos, some of the stencils and markings are on the wrong place!!! hpfgrmblhatewrathrageflippingoutdrivesmecrazyfknshit...🙁
At first i decided to let it how it is, because the decals are literally welded with the surface ( like i said, the decals are great, but the referance is..., not to mention...!)

At first i decided to let it how it is, because the decals are literally welded with the surface ( like i said, the decals are great, but the referance is..., not to mention...!)

Don't worry about it. The only ones who will know are you and all of us Scalemates. And we'll never tell anyone, or judge your model at a competition! By the way, have you counted the rivets yet? I think you may have too many... 🙂
Can you translate the last word in your first paragraph?
Seriously, this is looking very sweet! Makes me want to pull out my A-7 and start building it!

You can't get Future in Germany? Isn't it called Klir or something like that? I could probably send you a bottle, but I don't want what you're offering to part with. 🙂
I thought Germans could get Future from here:

I also think Aldis has a similar product: Aldi Stodil?

Sounds strange Holger, that has never happened to me, even if the paint is acrylic underneath... OK. make the best of a bad situation: it does not look too bad for a birdstrike or something!!! Keep on working and do not touch the disturbed area until everything is settled. Then we shall think of something 🙂

Holger - what are you using for the layers. (Habe das hoffentlich auch mit meinen Englischkenntnissen richtig übersetzt!!??) I always use on models with a lot of decals Mr. Metal Primer from Gunze. OK sometimes it will be tricky too to add the decals, but I feel this is the best choice. Do you use Future???
What to do? - Good question, I don't know what products you use.
I by myself would wait untlil the surface is dry - and than sprayed another thin layer. After drying fixing the decals only with water and a drop of vinegar. Hope it will work well.

I had to change in the german language - Ich hatte dieses Problem auch schon.

Thanks for your hint! I spotted this too and discovered many many different versions of the same aircraft. I had many different references and mixed something up!
But my goal is to have a model that I love. The historical facts are important to me but this aircraft is one I build "out of my guts"!
I share your opinions and would appreciate if you give me advises in the future! Cheers Holger

The resin ejection seats are beautifully detailed mate, and may I suggest you try to make the "D" actuator handles out of the black and yellow cotton thread, as it really would complete the visuals in that department, but it's just a suggestion as I can see you have tried to paint the colours there already.

Holger, I was really impressed with Verlinden when they first started making the Martin Baker Ejection seats, and that is what is in my F4G Phantom and you may have noticed the pull handles in my F4 are the cotton ones too. Have you the ability to open your canopy for display at all ? Yeah, the blobs were hard to deal with and it is a pitty the cockpits are not that glamorous, but you have done a masterful job with yours mate, El Supremo !!
Holger, I was really impressed with Verlinden when they first started making the Martin Baker Ejection seats, and that is what is in my F4G Phantom and you may have noticed the pull handles in my F4 are the cotton ones too. Kerry, from the first day of this project, i wanted the canopy closed. Thats why i only added the resin seats and not the whole pit.
If i planed to display with an open canopy, i would have replaced the whole pit for some Aires or Blackbox stuff🙂
A masterful job? Calm down buddy😢😢😢 But thank ya, this build was a joy, so far!
