The first pictures of the project- but you don't see any Hasegawa parts, but the finished resin cockpit of Aires, which I afforded.

impressive switch-painting 👍
is this a tandem build with the persian cat?

How did you like fitting the resin to the plastic? 🙂
I did this with Aires resin n 1:48. One definitely wants to be careful, and take it slow to avoid removing too much plastic, with a lot of dry fitting.

you are very brave with these old kits. i build almost only 72 tomcats but i never dared the old hasegawa or italeri. good luck fitting the aires pit. i had to do a lot of cutting to make it fit into my heavy maintenance build. really nice work on it

Thank you for all the motivating and interested feedback! Yes, Daniel, this will be the counterpart to the Iranian Tomcat shown in flight.
Treehugger, you have to grind the resin block of Aires a proper amount and also squeeze it a bit - but then it actually fits relatively well into the Hasegawa fuselage moulds. Thank you Martin, indeed! Especially the Italeri kit is rather forgettable; the Hasegawa edition I find quite good- until now 🙂

there are actually two hasegawa toolings. 1977 and 1988. yours is the 1977 with positive lines. the latter is still my favourite kit for open canopy or skunk stripe builds as it is very cheap for its great potential

The detail painting of the side panels is impressive! That is not possible in 1:72 !? It MUST be a bigger scale 🙂

agree - the accuracy of those panel switsches made me ponder too - a very good job Roland!

Martin, thank you very much for the informative advice - I find myself there with my experiences regarding these kits.
- and thank you mates for the charming question about the scale, I'm glad! 🙂

After the Eduard interlude, we finally continue here! Hasegawa's Tomcat is quite a nice experience, although there is a lot of sanding to be done. I gave myself a little help by means of Aires and other detailing etched parts.

Once again, the whole thing gets colourful before it sinks into "Gray H 315".... 🙂 The red was necessary to show the numerous lowered flaps.

A few construction steps further: the surfaces of the F-14 now bear all the colours and decals, but are not yet dirty in any way or have any signs of use or even a wahing. This might be quite interesting, as I have a lot planned!

With these pictures I would like to conclude the 72 Tomcat series - to go to the 48. The Hasegawa kit really shows its age; neither detailing nor fit could really convince. But it is all the nicer when a little initiative and above all a lot of Aires cockpit and Eduard etched parts lead to a result! There is also a "first time" here: I was able to sand and polish away the centre ridge on the clear cockpit! 🙂 I hope you like the final pictures, which I tried to make with the help of Coastal-Kits backgrounds.

Looks nice and clean and slick.
Q: What kind of paint are you using? Surface effectcs looks super smooth.

Hello mates! Thank you for your comments! The "Cat" was painted with acrylic paints from Gunze/ Mr. Hobby; the sealing over the decals was also done with Gunze clear lacquers - glossy as well as matt. I am glad you like the pictures of the result!
