The pictures you can see show the first steps to get a reasonable weathered surface. I have primed the complete tank with "Metallic Black" from Gunze, next was Tamiyas XF-61 Dark Green; between these two shades I applied very fine marks of masking solution. On top of these came heavily diluted Khaki (XF-49).
I hope that this approach will deliver a used and scratched appearance: some of the hardened masking solution will stay under the paint, on other areas the solution will be rubbed of, showing the metallic paint or any colour lying beneath.

Next some more colour shades of dust and earth will be applied; pastels will deliver more shades and following dry-brushing should high lighten most of the visible structures.

As a real tank-rookie, I will appreciate all your advice 😮)

Hi all- and thank you Acki,
after having a very interesting time in proving myself in tank-building skills, I managed to get to some result at last. It was quite an exciting and enjoyable excursion into the unknown...
I guess this is a wonderful and surely a well-proven kit: although not being the youngest, the kits parts assemble very well and look quite right to me. All I did was hollowing out the machine gun barrels and some sanding work on the wheel-gear, besides that the blankets on the turret sides got extra lashing.
The weathering was mainly done with artist´s pastel crayons and, in smaller extent, with Gunze Acrylics. For areas with more severe abrasion of the tanks colour I primed with metallic black paint on which I applied masking solution. After spraying the green paint, this was rubbed off.
I hope you enjoy the pictures- albeit I am far from being a tank expert!
Greetings Roland

Hi Roland, for not being a tank expert, you've done a hell of job on the Churchill. The colours and the shading looks great.

Just a hint - the teeth of the drive sprockets and the parts of tracks, where the wheels a re running should be metal blank.

But except from this - good job! 👍 👍 👍

Hello Frank,
thank you a lot for your encouraging words! I will remember your hint when I am going to build the next "Churchill"; this time it will be a Mk III from AFV.

Hello,

Roland), your Tamiya Churchill You've done very well.
Although the kit is older, you can still build a very good model of it.
This year I have also built the Tamiya Churchill but it a homemade Hessian Carmouflag AFV and a single link chain.

Hello all, your words make me proud and happy! Holger, "Oregano" is a funny idea 😮) and a good one: I will try that by the next occasion! No, in that case it was... tja, ein englisches Wort will und will nicht gefunden werden, darum auf deutsch: es handelt sich um etwas Streumaterial aus dem HO Modellbahn-Bereich, das ich mit einged*ckter Acrylfarbe eingekleistert und mit dem Pinsel aufgetragen habe.
Thank you all for your encouraging comments!

Album info

The "Churchill" Infantry tank has been fascinating me for a long time- not so long ago, I have chosen, that Tamiyas representation should be the first tank model I would allow my modeling skills to run riot 😮)
I have bought one of AFV´s superb Churchills too- but this will have to wait until my tank-modeling has grown up to the quality of these kits!
