Oh, this one should be interesting! I'm looking forward to seeing your progress. This just reminded me that the Nell in my stash is the 1960s vintage LS kit re-popped by ARII in 1995. Maybe I should pass this relic onto my son and get a modern kit?

Following! Build this nice kit 20 years ago and I think you'll inspire me to have a another go at it. Looking forward to see what you will do with the (lack of) wheel wells.

Ho mates, thank you all for your attendance and overwhelming interest ?
Btw is it just me getting older or is 1/72 getting smaller?

Well, Daniel, they do call it Braille Scale sometimes? I had a friend years ago who called it "Fly 'poo' Scale" even! I still remember when I first used a PE set. I looked at the cross-hairs gun sight and thought; "You've got to be kidding me!" Hah! That's just part of the charm though. Like the old time modelers who would build ships in real bottles you as the builder know all the details you put into it but it's up to the viewer to notice every little detail you added. Besides, as I understand it, the higher the scale goes the parts don't really get any smaller it just means that there are far more fiddly bits. 😉

I'm loving the work you put into this office and the flap details are great too! The MG shown in the open side blister; Is that straight from the box?
Thanks to you I finally took a good look at the "new" Hasegawa Nell and decided to pass the ARII kit I had in my stash to my son. While I believe that I could still create a good piece of work from the older kit this one has a far better basis to start from. That translates to less extra work to get it to where I'd want it to be. Furthermore my son isn't terribly picky and sometimes actually prefers older kits to newer ones.

I've never used masks for canopies before. I started with painting canopy frames with a toothpick and then moved on to using Microscale's Kristal Klear or even Elmer's Glue as a liquid mask. Then I just removed it with a toothpick afterwards. Even then it sometimes doesn't turn out right as it sometimes leaves parts of the sides of the frames unpainted.
Are mask sets easier to use than liquid masking? Also have you ever painted clear decal film and applied it to the interior of transparent parts so it has the primer color? I've seen it done with nice effect but have never ventured as far as to do it myself. Imagine the cursing that could erupt from trying to put those strips of film into a turret?! XD

I've painted a base layer the interior color and then painted the outside color. If the canopy isn't too thick this gives a good result.

Ben > That's probably a much better solution. I miss when Squadron would basically make a new vac canopy for any new kit that came out so you didn't have to worry how thick the kit transparencies were.

Hello Edward: regarding precut canopy masks, definitely easier than freehand liquid masking. You get a nice sharp edge.

Thank you all mates and Edward all things i could have mentioned about the benefit of these masks have already been named by this great community👍
So the main parts are assembled and i can go for the bascoat and the shading etc.
Then this will be halted until the Tamiya betty is at the same level of progress and try to finish them nearly simultan.

PS: That the design is following a from germany purchased Ju 86Z airliner is obvious isn't it?

Wow! The Ju-86 is one of my favorite subjects and yet I never noticed the similarity until you mentioned it here, Daniel. I have plans for six of them and am now looking into a seventh. I don't think I'll even build that many Spitfires or Bf-109s! 😄

Hi Miro!
Fit is rather good in my opinion?
The clearparts to body needs a bit attention!
Still a decent kit

@Alex as for the Brown, it looks buffier and brighter in the pics than in original here. Ist is really close to the H4 Iro Type.

Looking good, nice job on the camo. 1:72 scale kits sure have come along way from the old Airfix and Matchbox kits of the 60's. & 70's.

Hi Mike, thank you very much and you are right, we live in better times than ever before, related to the hobby! This kit is almost 25 years old btw. but compared to the 50 years old LS kit a milestone, that is corect.

He certainly does, Clifford. Watching this build inspired me to finally pass down the LS kit that was in my stash to my son and procure one of these beauties for myself. If mine turns out half as well as his did I will be incredibly happy!

For me the only interesting Nell from LS is the L3M1 "Nippon-go". It's a shame Hasegawa didn't released.
